re: Louisiana Bar Examination - Judgment Day Came and Left

The MBE is reusable, but only for a certain amount of years.

It's a little easier because the questions are honed and refined by hundreds of lawyers rather than just one like LA.

Ya, LA allows for some real bull shite questions to occur because of a lack of supervision.

Anyone who took July 2011 torts knows what I'm talking about. Examiner turned a long winded "name all the torts" question that is usually 45 points into a 15 point question.

She then asked another question that had one legal answer into a 30 point question.

I'm laughing at all the people bitching at the multiple choice questions. God help you if you ever have to take the bar in another state and have to take the MBE.

At least the MBE questions are verified and checked by a committee of tons of people i'm assuming (considering so many states use it)

I'm convinced that there is virtually no checks or oversight done with these MCQ. There were questions on the exam that had no correct answer due to the sloppy wording. There were questions where you could not figure out the correct answer even when you had the relevant code article and case law in front of you when you went home. You might chalk this up to my shoddy lawyering but many of my classmates had the same exact experience.

Oh I took that same exam. That test was awful.

I also liked how on many exams, where there we never any multiple choice questions before, there were at least two. Nobody at Barbri told me that shite might happen.

Someone told me later all the test writers were asked to put in at least one their test in 2011 as a trial run for the format switch in 2012.

Did you even read the last few pages?

That's exactly what we've been discussing.

In all truth, I REFUSED to talk about any exam to anyone after it was over. This might be the first time I ever have, and even I'm bitching about the MC (for a different reason).

Hope I didn't confuse you. My phone was on silent. I think I got up at 11am or something. As you can see, I don't sweat this stuff.

Taking the exam was when I sweated it.

I got forwarded the results before they were posted (along with a ton of other people that day).

I knew at 8:15 that I passed. Screw waiting on the posting .

I also heard the 51% rumor from someone at my firm who has connections to the La Supreme Court staff. It doesn't sound too far off the mark. The pass rate last July was 61%.

IMO, I think the LA bar is purposefully making the exam especially difficult to pass. Despite the low passage percentage last July (well below the other 49 states), the LA Bar RAISED the required amount of points to pass since that administration.

On another note, comparing the Louisiana Multiple Choice questions to the MBE is grossly inaccurate.
The July 2013 Code III & BENI multiple choice questions clearly had no quality control.
