I've lived here a month and haven't been anywhere mentioned. Tons of good places though.

My wife lived in Manhattan and worked in Times Square for 5-6 years. Every time we visit, she has to go back to John's Pizzeria. It will likely be the cheapest meal you have there. I enjoy it.

Lupa is very casual, a bit crowded/cramped. I had some of the lightest gnocchi of my life there, though it was probably 6-7 yrs ago. Haven't been recently, and there are a slew of other new, ambitious Italian spots in the general area, like Frankie's 570...or head to Maialino near Gramercy Park (though I think the cacio e pepe is only at lunch).

I'd put Porchetta in the east Village on the list, if you're into Italian: is there anything better than a porchetta sandwich? LINK /

Skip Lupa, go to Maialino for cacio e pepe, it's the best I've had in NY. Marea is a great choice, especially if you want seafood. Interestingly, one of the better things on the menu is the steak.

Also, I'd suggest skipping Les Halles, it's a mid tier chain brasserie and there are probably hundreds of better options in NY.

I agree with this. I went once a few years ago, not long after Bourdain's first book came out and before he became a ubiquitous TV personality.

It was okay and all, for what it is, but it sort of felt like a waste of a meal in NYC.

Do Spotted Pig for lunch instead.

Gnocco in the east village. To me,it's the "Boucherie" of the NYC lower east side. By Boucherie, I mean fantastic service, high end food at very reasonable prices. Go there every time I'm in town. Owner is very friendly and hands on with his restaurant.

Le Bernardin was probably one of the top two meals I've ever had in my life. Doing it for lunch is the way to go, practically the same menu, but about half the cost. Fantastic experience.

I thought Marea was very underwhelming. On the other hand, Michael White's OSteria Morini was fan freaking tastic.

Also, go to Mad About Chicken at Turntable. Best fried chicken I've ever had and very much an only in New York experience.

Anyone been to Boulud Sud?

We are going to NYC in December and my wife was looking at the menu and it looks pretty good. Near where we are staying too.

Ok...dropped lupa for maialino. I really want some cacio e pepe because I love it and we switched spring rome amd naples trip for a milan and piedmont trip...probably modena as well.

I dropped les halles because I trust you, cool. I need a non-italian soho, ev, lse or nomad suggestion for a momday lunch though...
