Obama considering Oval Office Address to sell Syria

Maybe the first smart thing he's done to help himself. Hopefully America throws it back at him.

LINK

quote:

President Obama is considering a high-profile address to the nation on the need for military intervention in Syria — a speech that could come as early as this week — according to top lawmakers and administration officials. Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes said today there is no speech planned at this point, but that Obama is looking at “multiple opportunities” to make the case directly to Congress and the American people.

He had better stand up and not put his feet on the desk.

Perhaps Rand Paul can deliver the rebuttal like they do for the State of the Union Speech.

Cool. It will be like the Nixon public address where he wanted to bomb Cambodia.

Good move. He needs to better articulate why we are going in....judging by how people have reacted so far.

He should have done this last week, IMO.

I don't mind going in, but damnit I want to know why we are going. Simply telling me that we are going to blow some shite up and kill some Syrians because they have killed other Syrians simply doesn't add up to me.

We have plenty of problems of our own to resolve.

He obviously doesn't get it...

After everything we have been lied to about, and had forced down our throats by this "president", more and more people aren't buying his BS anymore. Even if everything the admin. is saying right now is 100% true (I firmly beleive it is NOT) no one cares because of all the previous lies... Obamacare (pass it to see whats in it, oops its a clusterfrick)... Employment is up (oops thats only if you count new part-time jobs and don't count people who gave up trying to find work)... NSA eavesdropping... IRS scandal... Bengahzi...

I think just about everyone has had enough of the... "Trust us, we know better than you because of this dbl top secret intelligence we have been provided, but can't share with you... so just trust us. K?"

Unless/Until he does this, he has no chance of winning any support from either Congress or the general public. As things stand now, I don't know how any clear-thinking American could get behind this action. (Yeah, I really did use the term "clear-thinking American")

He is a far better liar than Kerry, so that might help. But I doubt he will be able to sell us the shite sandwich he wants us to eat.

If he had the votes he wouldn't even consider this public appeal, he doesn't and it is going to get worse day by day as more people contact Congress.

"My fellow American'S, remember all that noise I was making back in 2007 about the war criminal George Bush? Errr... I need you to keep focusing on the Bush part. You see, W didn't have a culturally Muslim background at any point in his life, so it wasn't ok for him to use the military against Muslims. I do have such a background, so it's cool for me. They love me over there. Gave me a peace prize. Just keep paying taxes so we can bomb some peace into the Assad regime. Afterall, it's not like Assad would be willing to pull out all the stops and massacre everyone once he realizes the US airforce is going to kill him and win the war anyway... and if he does, we have a contingency plan for that too. Good night!"

He didn't need the votes anyway, like we saw in Libya. He just wants a way out, and if there's an address it will only be an attempt to spread the blame for his ill tempered blustery.

{LSUGrrrl hangs head as she admits she had the same thought}

I never underestimate Obama's power to sway his followers. We will see a significant turn in poll numbers after he makes an address.

Not likely, his voters don't want war and the Opposition does not want this war, what is his argument? All of his spokes people are delivering nonstarter arguments, you think he is saving the good stuff for himself.

The ground swell is growing against this as the claims become more ridiculous.

Can't believe I'm saying this but you obviously have much more faith in people than I. I think at least 1/2 of his followers simply take their marching orders & support. Not hard to get a big jump from 9%.

I agree here. For those undecided he might have some sway. For those who are already against it, it has festered too long. If he waits too much longer, it will only get worse, and he'll get past the point of no return.

For some people he is a living saint, and is infallible when on the throne.
