Frasier: Bullet Point Criticism and Praise

I think that Frasier is easily one of the top 5 shows of the last 25 years. That said, there are some negatives.
Positives:
- One of the best ensemble casts ever. Every actor seemed to get every joke and play it masterfully. They're amazing.
- The writing is clever, smart, high-brow and witty, while still appealing to the masses.
- David Hyde Pierce. 'Nuff said.
- Amazing plot lines and a great story overall.
Negatives:
- Frasier was much more manly at the end of Cheers. Why did he become so effeminate?
- Some of the ideas were repetitive.

I haven't watched the show. I'm sure it's good, but Cheers was a bit before my time, and there was nothing about the premise of Fraiser that appealed to me.
The only thing I really remember about Cheers was the theme song, and feeling cool that I was watching a show that took place in a bar, although I had no clue what was going on.

I think this was actually addressed on the show when either Woody or Sam visited. The upshot was that Frasier put on a bit of a front at Cheers in order to "blend in" with the other guys (he even said he really didn't like beer that much and that's all he drank at Cheers). When he got back to his hometown (and around Niles), he fell back into how he really is.

Although I was a big fan of Frasier the series didn't end well, I'm afraid. The writing in the last season was putrid, especially those multiple done-to-death scenes that rely on somebody enters door and just misses someone else just leaving.

When he first moved back, he was shocked at how effeminate Niles had become. Over time, he became just like Niles.
Great show, still watch it.

First few times I watched, I really disliked it. When I "got it" the show became one of my all time favorites. Some of the episodes are pure genius.

I agree with this. For the most part of the series, the writing is very witty and extremely fast-paced. And the storylines between all the characters makes it even more interesting. Just a good show all around.

Positive-The brothers' foppishness. Best part of the show. There should have been more fish-out-of-water storylines.
Negatives-inconsistent backstory. Sometimes they went to an exclusive prep school, sometimes they were nerdy outcasts at a normal public high school. And their mother marrying blue-collar Marty Crane just wasn't believable to me.
Also negative-Niles/Daphne. Typical sitcom romance that detracted from the show's uniqueness.
And I hated the Mad Dog character. He just rubbed me the wrong way.
FWIW, Frasier's creator/executive producer was killed on one of the 9/11 planes. The show started declining after that.
Negatives-inconsistent backstory. Sometimes they went to an exclusive prep school, sometimes they were nerdy outcasts at a normal public high school. And their mother marrying blue-collar Marty Crane just wasn't believable to me.

One of my very favorites-and definitely not because I've known many Frasiers or Nileses. Maybe some Rozzes and Martins though. It's just got a cool style and features probably the best developed tv sitcom character ever.
Only drawbacks for me were them kinda losing the rub when the Daphne hookup finally happened. The other dumb thing that always bugged me was how they could ever be surprised with an outside visitor in a high dollar,guarded Seattle condo.
Neither stops me from watching at 2am if I'm up though, it's like a friggin Xanax.

Pretty clear and easy to see he acted more manly in Cheers simply because of the people he was around.

Once Fraiser was around Miles, it all came back to him what he really was like.
It got a bit old that Fraiser was constantly pulling hot arse every episode. Don't give me the crap he was a celebrity. He was a radio guy. Possible to get the occasional groupie but not the top shelf Milf action he was pulling.
Love Triangles. Once again, I find it hard enough to believe he could pull 1 woman with his effeminate act but at least 2 times on the show, he was in the middle of a triangle.

Eh, he was a rich local celebrity that was effeminate and cultured. He was also intelligent. I think that combo gets you a lot of hot arse in a city like Seattle.

My favorite sitcom of all-time, including Seinfeld. Watch it whenever it is on and I catch it, no matter how many times I've seen an episode. What was wrong with the ending?

you can go back to cheers, frasier dad was dead and his mom was a rich socialite who hated diane. also, frasiers dad played a jingle guy on cheers.
