The S&W in the first pic is Single action- internal hammer- fired. What exactly does that mean?

Kinda interested in one like first pic but wondering if the style of the one in the second pic is more accurate.

I've got one like that one on the bottom.

It jams every other mag.

The Ruger in the second picture has adjustable sights and will be more accurate with different types of ammunition.

means it's not striker fired, its single action like the ruger mkIII

Very accurate. I have a blued version and never had a problem with jamming caused by magazines. They also have great aftermarket support so you can buy pretty much all the parts you could need to upgrade and do it all yourself with basic tools. Thinking about putting a Pac-Lite barrel on mine.

The M&P22 (made for S&W by Walther) does have an internal hammer that is cocked and ready to fire when the slide is worked to chamber a round resulting in a light single action trigger pull - think single action revolver with hammer cocked. All other M&P handguns are striker fired meaning that the striker is cocked as the trigger is pulled. I have the M&P 22 and carry it all the time (4 wheeling/fishing/etc). Not necessarily for self defense, have others for that role. It's pretty reliable and likes minimags & federals.

I don't have a buckmark or Ruger mk series, but I'd say the Ruger or Browning will be more accurate than the S&W. If your wanting something to plink/have fun with the S&W fits the bill. If your wanting to hunt - go with one of the others.

No shite....

I shot a dragonfly out of the air with my Ruger MK II from a boat one day with a witness after calling the shot.

I love that pistol more than anything but it's not nearly as reliable as a revolver and if you get it dirty and have to take it apart... god help you. But the feel in your hand, and how well it points... makes me feel like a 1911 fanboi. It's my favorite pistol to shoot.

I have the top one and I really like it. I own lots of .22s and for some reason I've just never bought a Ruger Mark II.

I'm not claiming it's logical. My uncle had one when I was kid and I loved that thing. Kinda like most 1911 cultists. The heart loves what it loves. Performance and reliability doesn't really play into it at that point.

That Ruger is one of the best made semi-auto .22s ever made. It is crazy accurate and I'd love to have one. My brother does. I have Buckmark which is a great pistol in its own right.

Oh and one poster mentioned that Walther makes the M&P line for S&W, they do because S&W owns Walther.

I got to shoot one of these a couple weeks ago and I want one bad. Just don't want to spend over $500 for a damn 22

It jams every other mag.

It must have a problem cause I've probably put ten thousand rounds through mine and never had a fail to fire or a jam.

I see people say 22 ammo is unreliable it must be just for y'all cause I've never had one misfire
