Tuscaloosa Marine Shale oil well sets record (for TMS)
Full article at link:

Goodrich Petroleum Corp.’s Encana Anderson 17-2 well has set a record in the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, averaging the equivalent of 1,540 barrels of oil in a 24-hour period.

Kirk Barrell, author of the Tuscaloosa Trend blog and head of Amelia Resources LLC, said the result is significant, especially considering the Mississippi well’s 5,200-foot lateral, or horizontal section.

Goodrich apparently feels the same way. The company led its second-quarter earnings report, released Monday, with the results of wells in the Tuscaloosa, and the Anderson 17-2 led those results.

Goodrich recently bought the stake that Devon Energy had in the area, claiming they've been able to find success in their methods in the TMS.

Very nice. I wonder if they are trying to stay in it, or pump up the value, jump ship and pocket the $$

Also I just posted this on the OT before I came here and saw it too, this is a much better environment for this thread

They seem to be making a legit effort.

I'm curious how Devon's tactics can be so different than Goodrich.

This is really an Encana well, Goodrich just has 7% WI in it.

What does the "Anderson" represent?

The name of one of the property/mineral rights owners in the unit where the four Anderson wells were drilled.

So what, devon never tried landing a well in the bottom of the formation? I find that hard to believe

They were very inconsistent with their lateral placement. They also used minimal proppant and had poor frac designs.

Their main problem was just getting the well down.

Yeah, this is a tough formation to drill in, and a couple of these wells blew the AFE costs out of the water. I've heard through some sources that a couple of the Devon wells cost upwards of 20-25 million.

Yikes. That's pretty brutal.

This was enough to get a bunch of wells permitted in August and on the Docket for September. Not sure if they have enough rigs to drill them all. Also seams like they are waiting on East and West Feliciana. Not sure if the Louisiana laws are different but I've read some of the best oil could come from this area.

That's what I'm hearing as well on the high costs per well. I'd heard it put as more than double a Haynesville well, but this is the first actual number I've heard.

At that cost per well you are looking at needing $75+/bbl oil to make the projects worth doing. Right now that's not an issue, but it could be in a year or two.

None of the Encana or Goodrich wells cost that much. The most expensive Encana well was $12M and they have been able to realize some efficiencies since then that has taken the cost way down.

Has anyone seen anything referring to production in Pike County?

I haven't been looking, but most activity has been in Amite and Wilkenson.

Miss Oil and Gas Board
This will show what wells have been permitted.
