Landrieu Sticking by Obamacare vote

LINK

quote:

Landrieu has gone on the offensive, too, criticizing Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and her state's Legislature for refusing federal money to broaden Medicaid insurance for more low-income Americans. Along with the exchanges, the optional Medicaid expansion anchors the law's insurance coverage extension.

quote:

Landrieu also can use Jindal as a GOP counter on health care. Now chairman of the Republican Governors Association, Jindal has dismantled the state hospital system that Louisiana State University runs, closing some facilities and contracting with private firms to run others. Voters have not embraced the changes.

re: Landrieu Sticking by Obamacare vote

Once she revealed her true colors with her Obamacare vote (over the clear objections of a majority of her constituents), her best strategy is not to backpedal and to go on the offensive, as she has done here. This certainly makes her vulnerable to a good GOP candidate, but this is her only and best shot. If a Republican candidate can't make her pay for this vote, he or she does not deserve to win.

re: Landrieu Sticking by Obamacare vote

I get it: politicians should not make decisions solely based on polls. But the Obamacare vote was a big deal and should not have been passed without widespread support. National polls at the time (and since) how shown clear majorities opposed to the legislation and that it did not have broad popular support. Yet the president and the Democrats in Congress forced it through using extraordinary procedural moves, again over the objections of the American public. Mary Landrieu was right in the middle of it, even though Louisiana voters were even more opposed to the legislation than the rest of the country. Landrieu certainly deserves to be defeated, though it will no doubt take a strong Republican running a good campaign to unseat her.

So she's running against Jindal?

Always remember a vote for Landrieu = a vote for Harry Reid = a vote for Obama

Well blacks vote democrat and they make up 38% of the electorate in LA. That is a huge head start for Landrieu. That only leaves another 12% + 1 votes for her to acquire.

I think it's more like 29% of the electorate....Mary can be beat despite that. Off year election turnout always an issue for minorities and Tea Party and Tea Party types will probably be hitting on all cylinders by that time. Folks are pissed and will smell her blood in the water...only the GOP could screw this up.

And.... they probably will. But, we can dream can't we?

How do you know the majority of her constituents are against it?

Even in polls putting Obamacare in its best possible light, opposition is overwhelming.
quote:

As you may know, a health reform bill was signed into law in 2010 with four main provision—state insurance exchanges, Medicaid expansion, an individual mandate with subsidies for lower income people, and a panel to recommend cost controls. Given what you’ve heard about the health reform law, do you have a generally favorable or generally unfavorable opinion of it?

Louisiana: 31.2% Favorable, 47% Unfavorable

The only statistics needed in this discussion are the votes.
If you can't beat her, statistics such as polls are useless.

It's like gay marriage. Every time it was put to the people's vote it was defeated. So, people bring up "polls"

For all these years the Republicans have had this obvious strategy of nationalizing the election and making her defend Reid or Boxer or Kennedy but she's always been able to keep it about the pork.

She's underrated as a strategerist.

I've given up hope that Landrieu will be beaten by anyone. Seems the dumb people of La pull the lever for whatever name they recognize.

Well, them opening up boxes in New Orleans and throwing away any votes not for Mary Landrieu helps - and nobody ever does anything about it.
