Baseball would appear to be in crisis. Viewership is falling fast, down 30 percent across ESPN, TBS, and Fox since 2007.

and the ball actually can be juiced, news from Japan
quote:
after repeated denials, officials from the Nippon Professional Baseball have admitted that they asked equipment manufacturer Mizuno to alter the specifications of the ball in order to increase offensive levels, though that was to counteract a previous alteration. Back in 2011, NPB commissioner Ryozo Kato — who oversees the Japanese Central and Japanese Pacific Leagues — ordered a change in the makeup of the balls, which were slightly smaller and lighter than those used in MLB, to bring them in line with the stateside model. Wrote the Post, “The cork core of the ball was wrapped with a low-resilience rubber and its seams were widened. The organisation also made Mizuno the sole ball supplier, dropping its three rivals.”

0.54 per game in 2011 and 0.51 per game in 2012 according to data from Baseball-Reference.com. The players’ union, which felt that games had become less interesting, asked the league to review the matter. This year, the rates are back up to 0.75 per team per game, an increase of 47 percent

we know that offense draws more crowds....would juicing the ball be a bad idea?

Just let the players juice again

Why watch a boring arse sport, when you can watch football or basketball?

unhealthy and role model issues for kids
but say using aluminum bats or just implementing a high-performance ball is just an evolution of technology.
like graphite tennis rackets, big bertha clubs or whatever else performance enhancing evolution in equipment.

Phillies old, hurt, have awful GM, that's my excuse for lack of interest.
And hell no don't juice the ball. Anyone with eyes knew the balls and players were juiced the last time they had Brady Anderson going off, Sosa/McGwire shattering Maris in same year, with MLB building shrinking bandboxes by the dozen.

We have an aging population. Baseball is more popular with older folks. There will be a gradual decline in viewership.

I don't like baseball because the majority of the time it's just guys standing around watching a pitch and catch. Its like if free throw shooting or field goal kicking constituted the majority of the game in basketball and football.
I watch LSU baseball only, but that's because it's LSU, not because it's baseball.

I've never understood why hitting HRs is a bad thing. College baseball in the late 00s was fun to watch. MLB in the 90s was awesome.

Games take too long
Way too many games in a season
Takes forever for the pitcher just to make another throw
Too many games in a season
Too many mother fricking games

Maybe if they put more teams on TV, their numbers might go up just for the fact that it'd be something new.
It gets so old always seeing Rays vs Yankees from Tropicana. They consistently show the same 4 or 5 teams. Clearly these aren't "the teams people want to see" or the numbers wouldn't be down.
Always seems to be the Rays, Yankees, Phillies and Giants on a consistent basis.
All of that plus the fact that the NFL destroys MLB

I like baseball, but I admit it is really hard to watch a game for 9 innings. It is hard to justify investing 3 hours towards watching a game that is just one of 162 in a season. Final 3 innings of a reasonably close game is exciting, though.

Maybe if they expanded beyond the Yankees and Red Sox they may get more viewers. Every week it seems it is just another's Yankees match up.

MLB in the 90s was awesome.
..when Greg Maddux, Jimmy Key, Clemens, Appier, Stewart, Alvarez, McDowell, Schilling,etc..were pitching
..when Bonds, Big Hurt, Griffey, Martinez,etc..were hitting..
But, when a Brady Anderson sandwiches 13, 12, 16 prior, and 18, 18, 24 post..around a 50..aw hell no!
Then there's the whole ballmaker change Spalding to Rawlings Costa Rica plant thing..

Too many games. They should cut the season in half. 81 games is good enough.

Yep, and even if you pay for other services such as MLB.TV their blackout rules are retarded and you wind up missing many games you want to see because of it.

I'm 31 and love watching baseball.

So viewer levels are down when they only show the Yankees. I wonder if that has to do with this is the worst yankee lineup in years. I mean people want to see Lyle Overbay, Vernon Wells, and Travis Hafner everyday right.
The big networks are suffering while the Yankees don't have the big names to draw crowds
