Honestly, I wonder if MLB viewership is actually down. It might be down 30% on ESPN, Fox, and TBS but every team now has their own network to carry every single game. One of the biggest reasons for the escalating salaries the last few years has been how much teams make from their own networks. I don't know the ratings compared to 07 but it seems like these have probably increased.

There are also the online MLB packages that weren't around (or at least many fewer people were watching). I love baseball and almost never watch ESPN or Fox.

Thank you, didn't even read this page before I posted.

Way too many games in a season

This is the correct answer. Cut it down to about 90

And if they cut it to 90 the people that don't watch it will still complain about too many games. Reducing the number of games would be a disaster for the MLB, they would anger many traditionalists and people that don't watch baseball still aren't going to watch baseball.

With the money Major League Baseball is getting from ticket sales plus mammoth TV deals, why should the MLB reduce the amount of games? Heck, with expansion plus the introduction of interleague play that has occured since the MLB increased the games from 154 to 162 you can make the case that there aren't enough games.

Personally I think they should drop back to 154 games a year and speeding up game by 10-15 minutes by not allowing pitcher/hitter time outs

Where were the traditionalists when they added games and added 2 Wild Cards? They won't leave.
