Looking for a good steakhouse in Houston that will not breal the bank. OK with spending $30-$40 for a steak, but not the $60 price range a la Flemings, etc. Thanks

Might look at Taste of Texas, though I haven't been in a while.

I'd say pappa brothers but they are the 45-50$ range. Unbelievable wine list at that.

Hell taste of Texas is worth it just for the salad bar alone.

Del Frisco's just opened a Del Frisco's Grille in the West Ave area. Cheaper and more casual than the steak house but still good food. It's also a cool area with a lot of places right there to get a drink and walk around before dinner.

I recently had the Flat Iron Kobe ($27 with mash and veggies) at Benjy's on Washington Ave. Not a steakhouse but it was as good as anything I've had here not from Vic and Anthony's or Pappa's.

Del Frisco's Grille

It's pretty good. They took the emerging steakhouse bar menu/happy hour theme and expanded it to a full/alld day menu.

Yeah for that price range I would suggest the NY Strip at Taste of Texas. I've had a couple that were unbelievably good, but I've also had a couple that were just average. The salad bar is worth it and you can go to the back and pick your steak.

If money was no option I would suggest
1: Killen's
2: The Capital Grille
3: Pappas Bros

I went there a few times for business lunches/dinners when I worked downtown and it was underwhelming in every sense of the word every time.

Damn, I've only been to the one in Austin and I was impressed. Either way, there are plenty of great steakhouses in Houston.

The manager that always suggested it was from Dallas, and while he was a really nice guy, he had terrible taste in food. But it could just be that location.

Strip House is right in that area and much better imo. Pretty cool atmosphere as well.

This.....also try Frank's Chop House on Westheimer near Galleria, pretty good the one time I went there.

Also has anyone heard about Killen's selling BBQ during the weekend? Supposedly will be opening restaurant soon.

Capital Grille and Del Frisco's are my favorites in Houston so far. Pappas Bros was good, but I wasn't as impressed as the other two.

As someone else has mentioned, Taste of Texas would probably be a decent option in that price range, but I agree that its a little hit or miss on the steaks. Might be a little overrated IMO. However, the salad bar is pretty amazing for sure.

If you go here be sure to try the grilled quail bites appetizer. Yummy !

Killen's has some steaks in that range, other higher.

Definitely one of the best steak places in the Houston area
