Pinto Beans (Photos)

Brisket deserves pinto beans

Here they are. You'll need.

- 2 cans pinto beans - I just buy the store brand
- Bacon - maybe 3/4 cup cut into bits
- onion 1/2 pf a medium onion
- Green pepper - maybe 1/4
- Honey - 2 Tablespoons
- Dry Rub Seasoning I used on my brisket - 1 Tablespoon
Bean Pot and oven at 325F

Just noticed the bacon is not in this photo Here is one with bacon

Cook bacon until crisp and then sautee chopped onions and green peppers in bacon oil.

Add some black pepper (Maybe a teaspoon) to vegetables.

To the bean pot, add 2 cans of pinto beans, the sauteed vegetables, two tablespoons honey, bacon and a Tablespoon of dry rub. Only the dry rub is shown here.

Here is the rest

Cook in oven (covered) at 325 F for a couple of hours (slow).

Perfect as a side for brisket.

Sometimes I add a little chili powder. Not sure why I didn't do that this time.

Grew up relatively poor - with roots in West Texas.
We had Pinto Beans, sometimes 3 times a week. Never from a can. Bacon fat was the only "Meat". Always with a thick-crusted slab of yellow cornbread, onion wedge, and ripe tomatoes.

That sounds awesome. Its really funny how a lot of the southern staple foods originated because they were cheap to make and now they are something that is sought after.

It cracks me up how someone takes a couple of cans of beans, adds a little seasoning and sticks it in the oven and everyone wants the recipe, pictures, etc... I'm sure it's pretty tasty but I would call this version mixing, not cooking. Do the posters that go crazy over this really need pics of cut onions and bell peppers to figure out recooking canned beans? Do all of the posters that go crazy over this stuff really not know how to do this?

More like he wants to post the recipe, pictures. If he wants to do that, who are we to stop him, and why can't we comment on how good it probably tasted?

You know exactly what MD's threads are like before you read them. So, that being the case, why keep doing it if they bother you?

I prefer cooking pintos rather than heating them up from a can, but on occasion I need something quick and easy as a side and these do just fine, and I generally doctor mine up much in the same way

Why make comments like this, it's not the OT. I enjoy the pics and recipes Meridian. If you don't want to see them, or know how to cook everything, then don't click on the thread.

Why make comments like this

All I said is it basically cracks me up. Why is it okay for you to post how you love it or want pics or recipes and I can't comment how I think it's funny you want this recipe? I never bashed the OP. I don't think I've stated anything mean, hurtful or untrue in my post. I pretty much simply stated my opinion just as you did.

You can't be serious. When we say we like the photos and recipes, it's a positive thing. Your comment is a negative one both toward the OP and the person who wants the recipe. Two of us have posted on how your comments are offensive and negative. Please keep them to yourself.

Bull shite. If someone wants to rag on MD for lightly dressing up a couple of cans of beans, they are well within their right to do so.

He only posted this thread cause someone asked him to do it. He didnt just bust out with here's my canned beans recipe. I dont think anyone has a right to bash him for posting something at another poster's request.

One of the best buys at our Sam's store is the 40 pound bag of dried pinto beans. I have always wanted to buy me one of them, but I hardly ever go without the wife and frankly my imagined reaction from her shoudl I tosss that bag into our cart scares me. She is wonderfully supportive of me (MHNBPF) but I know that she has her limits.

I do them from dried, just didn't do them from dried yesterday.

I grew up relatively poor also. Never knew we were poor until later in life. My parents were very skilled at money management and self sacrifice to provide for their kids. We hardly ever had Five star restaurant meals at five star restaurants, but my mom was an incredible cook and the credit for my preference of good food, simply prepaired I give to her.

Edited to add:

IMO - Pinto beans, Cornbread, Onions and Tomatoes is very good eats. I would say Grace, thanking the Lord for the bounty of his blessings and happily chow down on that for dinner today if that was what we had.

No, but if he asks you to post a recipe for a simple ham and cheese poboy then you shouldnt recieve criticism for doing so. If anything you went out of your way to help another poster. I dont see any reason why he should get bashed for that.

ETA

good natured jabs =/= bashing

So in the future do I need to send any post I think about submitting over to you for approval? Didn't realize you were the positive poster police.
