Interviewing for Management Level Position at Plant-Type Facility (Updated OP)

Ok, I'm going to be interviewing for a position at an industrial facility.

I'm an engineer, an the position will be management level at the facility.

My question is: What do I wear??

My current job is at the corporate level, and the interview was conducted at the corporate office where I work. It was a no-brainier, I wore a suit and tie. Every other job I've ever interviewed for was consulting-type engineering and in a strict office setting. So again, suit and tie.

This is not to say there's not an office on site where the interview will be conducted, obviously, I just don't want to seem way out of place if I show up in a suit.

I don't want to over-dress and I don't want to under dress. Anyone with any recommendations??

UPDATE BELOW:

I was going to wear my suit, but I left the jacket in my car. I didnt have the jacket on when I arrived. I had to check-in with security office. So, after I checked-in with the guards, the plant manager came to escort me to the offices. I just decided not to even worry about putting on the jacket. Fit in just fine. I think it would've worked either way, though.

I have a second interview scheduled now, at the corporate office. Exciting times.

our plant manager here (engineering background) usually walks around in slacks with a button down, usually without tie, sometimes with. if there are meetings he will throw on a jacket.

Suit and tie...

You should always wear a suit and tie on an interview IMO, even if the dress code for the job doesn't require it. You need to look like a professional. If you are uncomfortable with that, I guess you can settle for a sport coat and tie.

I believe the general rule is if the job is business casual or dressier, you should wear a suit and tie.

It's better to overdress than under dress in a situation like you're facing.

I'd go with the suit and tie.

My brother went to an interview in Charleston,SC for a Steel Plant. He wore a coat and tie. They laughed hard at him and threw jibs such as "You interviewing for sales?" and such. Guy that wore his boots ended up landing a 70k/yr position. My brother ended up getting hired but for a lesser salary.

I've never seen anyone with a suit and tie on in a plant. Admin office or elsewhere.

If its a professional position, suit and tie. Nobody wears a suit and tie to work where I'm at, ever, but every candidate wears a suit and tie.

I'd have to know more a out the plant, but suit and tie is a bit much for some plants.

Call the plant and ask the person who answers the phone, what is the appropriate attire for an interview at this plant. Ask them what the managers wear to work every day, then dress a little bit above that.
...or you can wear a suit and tie and when you arrive you can ask the secretary these questions. You could tell him/her you'll be right back and ditch the coat and tie if it seems too much.

I think I agree. Suit and tie won't hurt. But calling a his contact they should give him info on what is normal for interviews.

I offer this advice as an engineer and a plant manager;

D-O N-O-T wear a suit and tie to an interview being conducted at the plant.

no that is fricking stupid. would you hire someone to a managerial position that has to call and ask what to wear to an interview? thats a far worse idea than just wearing the suit.

if you wear the suit and tie - you can always lose the jacket and/or tie if you think you are overdressed once you get there.
