I have always played ping pong with the same group of friends until recently I played a guy at his home--his rules. He was talking mad shiz so I had to step up and challenge him.
Right off the bat, his first serve goes straight across on the same side of the table. This throws me off because I am used to having to serve diagonal from right to left or vice versa. Of course I lost because this rule is total bullshite, or so I think. He says it is in the official rules that this is acceptable except when playing doubles--which I believe.
Am I wrong for being pissed about this? I mean do we HAVE to play "professional" rules? I bet he doesn't use this same approach to the rules when playing golf

Only thing that pisses me off if when people don't toss the ball in the air to serve like you're supposed to.

We play you can serve where ever and how ever you want as long as it doesn't hit net and bounces once on both sides for singles.

You are wrong and lost. See the rules for serving above.
Only in doubles do you have to serve to each players right side.

The serve protocol is a pretty vital part of the game. It's not like gimmie inside the leather in your Sunday scramble.
