| NOLA Restaurant advice... (Posted on 2/14/13 at 8:41 am)
Looking to take the wife to a nice meal for our Anniversary next weekend. After that we will go to The Theatres at Canal Place for a movie...what would be a good place to take her? Looking for a good atmosphere...open to pretty much anything as long as it will be a good experience. Could be a casual place or elegant. Thanks in advance!

Take her to NOLA, then. Get the Mrs Hayes Wing app. It's a must.

Will you be traveling on foot or via auto?

Just a suggestion, but the theatres at Canal Place actually have really good food done by Adolfo Garcia. Also, they serve booze. I think you could kill two birds with one stone, cap.

Go to Iris. It is not far from the Theatres (maybe 3 blocks), has fantastic food, and is easy to get in and out of.

good call. I'll second Iris. it doesn't get enough pub. really good food over there. (looking forward to trying their new place too). if the OP is looking for something a little more casual I think Saint Lawrence does good food for a bar and it's a cool spot to hang and drink. also Root would be an interesting choice.

Checked out the places you recommended..all are different and I like the variety. I think Root might be too "urban" I guess would be the word..St. Lawrence looks like more of a bar but would be a cool place to do one time....Iris looks like its in the running for which place I choose. Still looking though...although the Steak frites at iris sounds good

I had a great pre-valentines at Root last night. That would be my vote. Great atmosphere, not too fancy, and excellent food.

Have you been to La Crepe Nanou uptown? It is romantic, yet more casual than somewhere like August or Commanders.

We're going to Commanders this weekend for our anniversary. See you there? And if not, maybe check out Tommys. Best lamb I've ever had.

Within walking distance of the theatre, I would add to those places already mentioned: Mr. B's (great gumbo and BBQ shrimp) Bayona (upscale) G.W. Fins (fantastic seafood)

I'd fall asleep if I had dinner and drinks and then went to a movie.

Tried to help him get out cheap. Would probably be better to do food and drinks at the movies and then get either dessert or drinks and snacks post movie. But then what do I know, I am just an unfrozen caveman lawyer.

Quote: Rohan2Reed yeah wonder what movie they're going to see Hope it's not Prognosis Negative. To the OP, you could have a nice walk(weather permitting) from A Mano. Get a better taste of Mr. Garcia's offerings then the theater. Usually an easy place to get a table.
