I am installing a dimmer switch for the lights over the island in my kitchen. One light switch controls the island lights, but there are three other switches in the circuit and in the same panel (fan, fan lights, can lights). The can lights can be controlled from two separate switch locations (3-way circuit).
When I install the dimmer for the island lights, the switch is upside down. When the toggle is in the down position, the light is on. When up, = off.
I thought the simple solution would be to flip the entire assembly upside down. Nope. Although that fixes the switch direction issue, the dimmer slider next to the toggle is reversed (slide up to dim).
Can I get a little help here?

Did you buy a three way dimmer?
Does your dimmer have screws to attach the wires, or wires coming out of the back?

ETA: It says that it is both single pole OR 3-way

Not seeing the dimmer switch, can you simply swap the position of the in/out terminals or wiring? So that the toggle switch remains as it is now, but the slider operation is corrected?

Easy solution. If screws, switch one wire from a gold screw to the other gold screw (one wire should be on a copper or black screw).
If wires, one wire to the black wire on switch, and one wire to a red wire on switch. just switch from one red wire to the other.

Ok, so there are two terminals on the right side of the switch. There is a third terminal on the left side of the switch, along with a ground.
Do I screw down one of the wires on the left side instead? (I currently have both hot wires on the right side).

OK you have screws.
Look at the color of the screws. Two are the same color. One is different. One wire should be on the different colored screw (either copper-ish or black).
The other wire should be on one of the other two screws--which ever one makes the orientation of the switch correct.

Sweet. That worked! It looks as though I was wiring the same as all the other single-pole switches.
