Best Sites To Check Credit

I'm looking for one good site (even if it costs a few $'s) that will give me a good look at my credit. I will be looking to buy a house in the next few years so I want to see where I stand. Reason I'm asking is because a year ago, I put a hotel on a credit card for $120 for a trip to surprise my wife, forgot to transfer money, and did not realize for 6 months when it was too late for Chase to help me (already reported.) Anyone konw how bad my credit took a hit and when it starts to go back up? Such a stupid mistake ruined everything I've done to this point

I just did the 3 scores of all three bureaus through Equifax through their teaser 4.95 rate so i could compare it to credit karma.
Credit karma overstates my credit score by a lot.

I bought a house at the end of November. CreditKarma told me I was around 760. My actual scores were in the 720s.

Ya, that is about the amount it overstated mine as well.

Credit karma was within 4 point of my fico, guess its not real consistent from one person to the next

I don't think you got FICO scores from the Equifax site. Equifax sells a "credit score" that isn't a true FICO. You can get your true Equifax FICO and an older version of your TransUnion FICO from MyFico.com. You can't buy your Experian FICO anymore.
This is from the Equifax website:
quote:
Both the Equifax Credit Score and the FICO Score are general-purpose score models used to predict credit risk. The Equifax Credit Score is a proprietary model created by Equifax. The FICO Score is a proprietary model created by Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO) . All Equifax consumer services and tools make use of the Equifax Credit Score unless otherwise indicated.
Also, my CreditKarma score is WAY off. They use TransUnion and when I had my scores pulled for a mortgage recently, my TransUnion FICO was 70 points higher than the score on CreditKarma. My Equifax FICO was exactly the same as the score I got from MyFico.

My Credit Karma was 2 points lower than my actual score when it was pulled

CreditKarma is a good resource to track your credit but the score may or may not be in line with your FICO score. Right before I applied for this mortgage, my CreditKarma score dropped 40 points and I have no idea why. I checked my Equifax and TransUnion FICO scores because I was afraid something negative had posted and they had gone UP 3 points from the last time I checked them.

Btw, aren't you in planning and scheduling? Are you still in the BR area? We just hired 6 more planners on direct at work. Lots of people retiring right now.

Well shite. I guess for 5 bucks it wasn't that bad of an estimation.
Thanks for the heads up.
