There is a whole issue of whether marketing potential matters v. straight sales of product. For instance, I doubt that Roger Federer pushes many shirts/shoes like the golf guys and isn't huge in the U.S., but he provides amazing worldwide exposure for the company. I also realize that some guys probably just receive a salary v. incentives/earnings on sales, but my WAG would be that this is the order of things:
#1 and 1a = Tiger/Rory.
#2 = LeBron
#3 = Lance (well, not anymore, but before the admission)
#4 = Kobe
#5 = One or two American football dudes (Adrian Peterson or Aaron Rodgers?)
#6 = One or two soccer dudes (Ronaldo, Rooney?)
#7 = another NBA dude or two
#8 = Federer

What about Olympic athletes? Or coaches like K, Saban, Calipari, Izzo?

Oh, and I assume MJ trumps all these guys with the Jordan brand and partial ownership in the company, but I dunno. Any inside info or something from the Rovelles or Horrows of the world?

I would love to see the same thing for ESPN. How does Simmons compare to SVP to Berman to Steve Young to Hannah Storm to Tirico to Kornheiser/Wilbon?

I wouldn't guess that Rory is getting as much as Tiger right off the bat. Tiger has his own line with Nike.

LBJ is at $12M/yr (10 yr/$120M). D Rose makes more than that from adidas.

Tiger signed a 5 yr/$200M deal in 2005, but after that scandal he is reportedly down to around $15M/yr.

Rory's deal is reportedly between $20-25M a year.

MJ is making around $15M through Gatorade, Hanes, and Nike combined.

Tiger has made over a billion dollars over his career and only ( ) 100 million has come from tourney winnings.

I'd be willing to bet Nike makes up a huge chunk of that 900 million dollars.

Tiger
Lebron
Others

ETA: Tiger and Rory probably make close to the same amount.

Only reason why I would put the golfers ahead of other athletes is because they don't make a salary. The tourney winnings they get are just icing on the cake (for the elite golfers)

Thanks. I don't much about the Adidas gang other than D Rose, Messi, Andy Murray and the teams like ND, Michigan, Nebraska, and Tennessee.

They also have Dwight, but he's losing marketability by the day.

Not really. Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the highest profile soccer players in the world and he only gets $8 million a year from Nike. It has to be Tiger or Lebron.

I am seeing Adipower Howard 3s on the Adidas website, so I don't think so.

I thought you guys were joking about Penny and Lil Penny, but that is awesome if he still gets a cut for retros.

Yea I have no idea what his contract terms are with nike, but there are probably 10+ shoes a year that come out bearing the 1 cent logo.
