If the Confederates were traitors, then how come after losing they were not punished for treason and sentenced to death?

The magnanimity of the Union. Andrew Johnson granted amnesty to almost all the combatants in 1865. Some individuals were excluded from the blanket amnesty, including Robt. E. Lee, and had to make individual application for pardons. Lee was not pardoned until 1975, more than likely due to a clerical error in the processing of his amnesty oath.

Aside from separating us from Britain, it is of no legal effect. Though it is a magnificent document, the constitution was drafted and ratified because the articles of confederation (drafted in the wake of the declaration itself) were not a workable or practical legal/political framework for a sovereign nation.

Since the AoC couldnt be changed without unanimous consent of all the states/colonies, could it be said that the states/colonies that sent delegates to the constitutional convention and decided that the new constitution would take effect when only 9 of the states/colonies ratified were seceding from the AoC

But a nation-state that allows its constituent parts to unilaterally come and go as they please can be recognized as sovereign by the world?

The entire southern half of a country is hardly unilateral and the constitution is quite specific on the requirements for a state to be admitted. If the other states didn't want the southern states to reenter the union they could have simply not allowed them back in.

You mean the patriots who took up arms to defend our blessed flag? Who helped to hold together a nation that went on to become arguably the greatest power the world has ever known. Who fought to preserve a nation that has largely been a force for good, and a world center of learning and innovation.

You can't be serious.

Here's the Constitution .....

Please show us where states did not have the right to say, "This isn't what we bargained for so ... Thanks, but no thanks, we're leaving. Ya'll have a nice day."
