This article is about a month old, but I guess still relevant.

LINK

Just curious if anyone even cares about these schools, but I have always found it interesting that more African American athletes have not shown more solidarity with these institutions. Especially in the SEC with its fan base, history and rule sets. I guess money trumps everything.

You should really change your thread title. Instead of "black", make it "HBCU"

That was the title of the article, but sure will edit to reflect possible confusion.

this

To OP: If it wasn't for the bands, HBCU football would have been dead a long time ago.

HBCs have long outlived their purpose. No offense to anyone who went to one, but even the private ones lag far behind the average state school in every possible way--including athletic resources. Why would these kids potentially sacrifice millions for some symbolic solidarity with failing institutions.

I was not familier with Jemele Hill, reading about her now. But no she did not write it.

its been dying since the early 90's maybe even before.

A big issue was how they never played in the 1-AA playoffs until a few years ago and still some leagues don't send a team even though they are like 10-2

Really no reason for a stud black kid to go to an HBCU for football anymore unless he couldn't qualify for an FBS school.

It's almost like he doesn't understand why superior athletes and minds alike don't attend HBCU's and I'm not sure if its because he is fricking stupid or if he just refuses to acknowledge the truth. The last player to get any REAL attention at a HBCU was Steve McNair and anything less than a phd from a HBCU is laughable and those PhDs aren't much better. Basically, any black person that is significantly above average in sports or academia is doing him/herself a disservice by attending a HBCU.

I'm shocked that an obsolete institution is dying off.

I'd go ahead and drop the significantly part. Maybe there could be some advantage if you're looking to network into some business that does most of its business in the black community, but you'd probably do just as well in the black alumni association at a decent school.

At SUNO, it's even higher. SUNO has a 5% 6-year grad rate and still can't be shuttered due to political pressure. All it's there for is to give 6 figure jobs to the family members of black legislators and run a giant pell grant scheme to rob tax payers.

The political pressure is bullshite, IMO. The delegation that is applying said pressure doesn't have enough clout to do anything about a closure except scream racism. Which, I guess is pressure enough these days...
