Recommendations for an Atlanta restaurant ? *Updated OP

My brother just graduated and will be up there for the bowl game next week. I want to treat him and his gf to a meal while there.
Pretty unfamiliar with the food scene up there outside of a drunken trip to the Varsity, so any recommendations would be much appreciated.
Looking for great food, but not necessarily the fanciest place in the city.
They will be staying downtown, but could certainly catch a cab to another part of the city.
**Update**
We ended up at Two Urban Licks for Dinner on Sunday. Food was pretty good. Huge converted warehouse with a very modern theme and design; impressive looking place. They seem to specialize in grilled meats and some griled fish dishes.
We primarily ordered and shared appetizers, with the exception of a brisket entree which was also shared. Brisket empanadas were the highlight, stuffed with feta topped with pico de gallo. Damn good.
We also went to Alma Cocina, which is right in the middle of downtown, close to hotels, and it was surprisingly good. Food is "Modern Latin/Mexican". Red Snapper Ceviche was solid, as were the salsas. The thing that stood out about this place was the service, and was some of the best I have ever had.
Just Thought I would update for anyone traveling to ATL in the future. Both were solid options

Pampas, it's in johns creek though. Best steak in the city and I've been to them all. But in the buckhead area there is down the hatch which is fondue place. Nice atmosphere and you don't really have to get that dressed up. Also New York prime is pretty damn good. And if you love Asian food stop anywhere on 141 and you will enjoy it.

There's this place that makes an off the menu burger... And they only make like 20 a night starting at I want to say ten.... I've seen it on the best thing I ever ate on foodnetwork and other shows on the foodnetwork... I was always intrigued because it sells out like instantly.... haven't been to Atlanta in years but I remember that one day I to try and snag one to see what all the fuss is about

Watershed in Decatur
Watershed moved. It's in the bottom of some new condos in the sort of border of South Buckhead and Midtown.
These spots are all very good and won't break your bank.
Empire State South
4th and Swift
Holeman and Finch is good. Those burgers are after 10 pm.
Rathbuns and Rathbun Steak
Miller Union
The Optimist - new place. Supposed to be great.
Decatur is a good option. Cakes and Ale, Iberian Pig and Leons are the three I'd recommend, and then go get a couple beers at Brickstore. All are within walking distance of each other. 246 is another one. It's a newer Italian spot that's pretty good. It's right next to Leons. And you can take Marta directly to the Decatur square, where they all are, if you don't want to drive.
This is a pretty good list -

Cakes & Ale if you are cool with something a little more upscale.
If you want more affordable deliciousness try Community Q, Taqueria Del Sol, or Antico

Why in the hell would they move from the gas station?

Believe me, I wasn't happy about it. I live on the other side of the Decatur square and I loved that place, but parking was an issue, and I think they just wanted a change of venue, for whatever reason. New chef who I think is part owner, etc.
Hopefully something good takes over where they were, but those will be big shoes to fill.
