Plan to graduate in 2014. Not bashing, but will any of PBO's policies directly, or in-directly affect me as a new member of the work force?

The healthcare law will affect a lot of people

Some people it will help, others not so much

Don't know what you're looking for here

Supposedly preexisting conditions won't be held against anyone.

Supposedly dependants can remain on their parents' policy until age 26 ... even if you have a job

You're going to pay a lot ... and more than likely get a little.

We have an individual policy that is NOT under Obamacare so they tell me YET. BCBS of LA. If we make certain changes to our policy then we fall under Obamacare.

I asked the BCBS rep what benefits would change if we were under Obamacare. Well, I would have gestational diabetes coverage (not more kids from us), IF I were to have a 4th child I would lactation counseling for free (yeah I got that in the hospital with child #2 and #3 prior to d/c)I would have testing and counseling for STDs (um happily married dont' need this either) AND I could get a FREE COLONSCOPY!! Oh joy ...

SO after hearing these wonderful things I asked well what's the drawback. Her words to me were "you're gonna have to pay more, more than likely". Pay more for shite I don't need???? No way.

Your future employers may not offer you coverage ... you will be at the mercy of the national plan or whatever the hell they come up with if they've even read the bill yet.

I'm pissed. We pay dearly for our policy ...

Yes.

You are less likely to be one.

In all seriousness. It's becoming draconianly expensive to bring on new workers. There is already a huge glut of college graduates that don't have jobs. You will be way behind them unless you really get on the stick starting today.

From the perspective of an employee? Private health insurance premiums will continue to rise for another year or two. The degree to which you are affected largely depends on your employers willingness to share the burden. The government option will be made available in 14' as I remember it. In principle this would create competition in which the consumer(you) is the ultimate benefactor. We'll see how that plays out. As a new entry to the workforce, you'll have not experienced the lower cost insurance of years ago so the point may be moot.

From a taxation standpoint, the consensus is that taxes will rise by some degree for all and to a larger degree for some high earners.

In a nutshell, that about covers it.

Not trying to scare you, but you should be scared. Start getting your plans in line right now and you have a chance. We're way past the point of grabbing a job in your last semester of college. Recruiters are pushing the process earlier and earlier because they have all the power. You should have a job locked down by the beginning of your senior year.

That may be a possibility. Thanks for the heads up. I'll admit I'm scared the way things are going.

I don't know how things will be over a year from now, but all of my engineering buddies were able to get a job before or into their last semester of their senior year. I do have one business friend who has had an incredibly tough time to get one interview, even with completion of his MBA. So there is certainly a difference depending on where your degree falls.

If jimbeam is making a 2.5 he better start working overtime to get himself in a good position or he will be struggling to get a job.

Yes it won't affect healthy people

To the OP he will help your interest rates on your loans remain low perhaps. That will be good but it won't matter how low the payments are when you don't have a job.

Yep. This isn't the same world anymore. If a kid wants a job out of college he better start getting legitimate work experience asap. The sooner you can line up a good internship or something and secure a position at graduation, the better.

You will have to provide gold grills at cost plus "reasonable and customary" labor fees.

Without a doubt. It will cost a fortune to hire employees to run your practice. Small businesses such as a dental practice will be very hard hit. Hope and change.

Biggest issue would be getting a job. Unemployment is still high.
