I may put this on the Outdoor Board too, but figured I would give a shot here first. I haven't had a rabbit sauce piquant in a LONG time and recently ran across a recipe for one and want to try it. I rarely hunt these days, and don't know anyone I can get any freshly killed rabbits from. I've looked around town, and the only place I could find any was Poche's in the Boutins Restaurant, but they are small, frozen, and cost almost $20 each. Maxwells doesn't sell them, and I don't know where else to look.
I remember a guy in Central that used to sell live rabbits to eat when I was a kid, but I haven't seen or heard of anyone that sells rabbit in years. Any advice?
Oh yeah, I'm in Baton Rouge.

Can't be cheap, but I'd call Whole Foods. Maybe someone will know a local grower and post a contact. Good luck.

Chris' Speciality Meats sells rabbit. My fiancée bought one for me to cook last year. Don't know the price, but it has to be less than Whole Foods

Heck yeah fellas, I'd sure as hell appreciate it if one of ya'll could spare a rabbit or two after one of ya'lls hunt. Now that the season is here, I may have to post this every couple of weeks as a reminder.

I don't mind making that drive for a couple of fresh rabbits, but Holden is a bit far.

Myself. I've had a pack of beagles my whole life up until about 4-5 years ago. I'm in the market for a couple/few running dogs if you know of any around here.

Can't beat marsh rabbits. Their hind legs are huge.
I've seen seen meat rabbits advertised on craigs list under farm and garden.

I used to bring my dogs down to the Crowley/Gueydan area and hunt my sister in laws dads farms. They had swamp rabbits bigger than my dogs.

Swamp rabbits all around my place outside of Ponchatoula. They keep the bobcats and foxes very healthy. Haven't hunted them in 20 yrs. They make a great gumbo.
