The Advocate has some damned stupid people. The lead editor of the editorial page can be found playing computer games for an entire day for shits and giggles. He is in charge of so many things at the paper, and he is a very much Teoddy leaning person and it rolls over into the religion and faith section on Saturdays. He hates Republicans and any true belief in a Divine entity being possible.

Seriously, how can one be a "food writer" and honestly profess such a superficial knowledge of the food world? It's astounding some of the stuff I've read in Advocate "restaurant reviews."

The chicken and waffles thing is pretty embarrassing.

It's truly unconscionable.

I don't know, but it looks like plagiarism to me.

Reviewing a damn club sandwich

quote:

The Cali Club ($8) was tasty, the turkey moist and the bun fresh. It could have used more turkey than the two slices provided. It was definitely a good sandwich, but not a very hearty one.

Seriously though, how long has this place been closed? 3 or 4 weeks?

WTF?

It took a month to get that masterpiece on print?

That's pretty sad. How long has this guy written restaurant reviews?

You got him pretty good. Wonder if he reads the comments. Wonder if his employer does.

Perhaps.

Highly doubtful, considering those in charge of that rag.

Wow. These reviews somehow get more pathetic every time.

I'm not defending the article as a whole, but the author never said that he wasn't familiar with chicken and waffles. He was referring to his guest, who's perhaps not from the South.

I don't know. The clear implication in reading this was, at least to me, that the author had never heard of it, but that his dining companion was at least "vaguely familiar" with such an unusual and exotic dish.

quote:

If you’ve never heard of serving chicken and waffles ($9.50) together, you’re not alone.

One of my guests was vaguely familiar with what, in some parts, is considered a Southern/soul food specialty, so he ordered it. (And received a text from his North Carolina-raised wife expressing envy at the opportunity.)

If we (the readers) are "not alone" in having not heard of it, who are we not alone with? Clearly, his dining companion had at least heard of it, if he was "vaguely familiar" with it. So, we would have to assume that we are in concert with the author on our ignorance of such exotic fare.
