Cookbook Question

So I keep a running list of books that I want to buy and I jotted one down that I saw on here a while back. I am knocking out some of my list but all I wrote down was River Road cookbook and there are quite a few coming up on amazon. Could someone clarify which one it is please. I remember reading it is essentially the bible for louisiana cooking. Thanks yall and any other good LA cookbook recommendations would be appreciated as well.

Buy both #1 and #2. They are equally good. Three is a healthy version and I prefer any Holly Clegg book over three.
I use them all the time. When it gets chilly try the shrimp balls recipe. It's like shrimp meatballs in a suspect piquante type over pasta. Amazing dish I've cooked for thirty years and all family and friends beg me to do it.

Ahh I recognize that from my parents bookshelf in the kitchen. Thanks, I just ordered a copy. Know anything about the other installments? Apparently they have like four or five of these.

The first is in the picture above and doesn't have a number.

I went to the library to look at some the other day and found some that I really like. They have a great selection to look at so I picked a few to check out, and will probably buy them off amazon for a deeply discounted price.
I got Secrets from the Southern Living Test Kitchen and really like it. It has a lot of generally good information, including tips explanations of ingredients and uses, recipes, and techniques. I plan to buy a copy for general reference and inspiration in creating my own recipes.

What would the board say is the correct number of cook books to have an all around collection?

There is no answer to your question. Depends on you. I have gazillions because I read them like novels. Some have a few and use the internet more often.

I have actually used the 2nd one (red cover) more than the first, although the 1st one (white cover) does have a lot of good recipes in it.
Someone mentioned Southern Living cookbook--I'm not sure what version I have (it's fairly large and I got it about 12 years ago), but this + the two River Roads cookbooks are my favorites. It has a lot of basic stuff that everyone should try at some point (biscuits, pancakes, pie crust, sauces).

There is no such thing as too many cookbooks, only not enough*

I hardly even use cookbooks anymore. But I'm still tempted to buy a good one when I see one. I must resist.
