Looking for upscale/semi-upscale places in Houston that have seafood, but more than just a few apps. I'm thinking of places like Underbelly, so any other places that come to mind (inside loop and preferably south of I-10 around downtown/midtown/Montrose/Kirby) that anyone can suggest? Not necessarily a "seafood restaurant" but just modern fare with more than 1 or 2 seafood dishes to choose from. Someone told me about Danton's, the menu looks decent and old school, but the yelp reviews are pretty all over the place, so any comments on that are invited as well.

eta: Sushi restaurants don't count for the purposes of this discussion.

I gave La Fisheria consideration, have you been there? What kind of atmosphere is it? Can't really tell from the pictures on website.

Is Nit Noi Thai Restaurant in Rice Village still open? They had some good seafood options. Loved that place.

I saw that one too but this is for a first date, so I think that might be a little too fancy to start off with. This is the same reason I eliminated Reef as I'm not sure you can really top that from a seafood restaurant standpoint.

Gotcha. I'd agree that for a first date, Truluck is too much.

I think I'll probably try Underbelly since that's I want to go there anyway so I might as well guarantee that I get something out of it. The girl said she likes seafood (not a vegetarian, just likes seafood more than meat), so I was trying to angle somewhere with more seafood. Its honestly probably irrelevant, was just looking to broaden the search since Yelp was of little to no help.

Brennan's downtown is always on point. Turtle soup is the best.
