I think the bashing of Johnny should stop. I am not advocating for or against him, however I think he faces a severe uphill battle to get the job. Regardless, he's a former player and coach at LSU and doesn't deserve a lot of the things being said about him.

He is chasing his dream to be LSU's coach. More power to him. I can't fault him for that at all.

Are some people doing some stupid things to help him out? (I'm looking at you, Clarence). Yes. That was a bad move and probably hurts Johnny more than it helps him.

Everyone needs to have patience. There is way too much anger over hypothetical hires. Let it play out and I predict most people will be happy.

cannot disagree.

Covered Johnny his one season at Memphis. Tough year with the Tic Price deal but.....

his players liked him, played hard for him and Johnny would have gotten that job if they didn't throw money at Calipari....that is a FACT

I don't have a problem with him personally, I just want a proven winner. I don't think he is that proven winner and I don't think he is going to put butts in the seats.

Listen, Buster...
All you need to know is that Clarence Caesar is going to be VERY disappointed if Jones doesn't get the job.
Bob Petit came to LSU b/c of Jones...

It Johnny Jones would be our next coach it would have already happened by now, however; if he is our next coach, it means he was the only person available to take the job... If that makes sense.

Who has "blasted" him?

Stating he is under qualified and past his prime may hurt his ego, but it's probably fact.

The guy seems nice enough and I haven't seen anything personal in nature?

Winning is the only thing that will consistently put butts in the seats. Hopefully we get a coach who will actually recruit and plays an exciting brand of basketball. I don't care who that is.

We all do. But bashing Johnny doesn't help. Alleva's not reading this board.

If he can recruit players here then great because I feel basketball these days is about 99% recruiting and 1% coaching.

Johnny Jones would probably be getting a lot more respect if the "Squeal of Approval" BBQ Group wasn't trying to jam him down our throats.

He absolutely does.......he was the buffoon who was essentially the cause of us getting the de facto death penalty that we are still dealing with.

I couldnt agree more Bubba. I love LSU basketball and I am of course not endorsing him, but I see potential and I also see a guy who wouldnt leave LSU until he was asked to.

You could be talking about the next Dale Brown. From his coaching tree and seems to love lsu.

although people are questioning Jones' resume, I look at it more of bashing Dale Brown and his posse that is trying to force Alleva's hands. Alleva has made really good hires since he's been here. Every one of them. Sure, TJ didn't work out and the Bama softball coach decided to stay. But, he went out and got a proven coach that looked like he/she was a great fit.

Tell Dale Brown and his crew to shut up.

Plus, I think that some are a little sensitive about the Jones stuff. I've read a ton questioning his coaching ability and his ethics due to the probation situation. I haven't read anyone bashing his character/family/moral values. Thinking he's a mediocre coach and a horrible hire is fair game.

How many NCAA tournament wins does he have? Why should LSU settle for someone who hasn't won squat? The guy hasn't even won a regular season conference title?

I absolutely agree it's about recruiting, but if that's our approach would Butch Pierre actually recruit the state of LA better? Plus, bring a greater sense of youth?

Perhaps he's changed for the better since his days in Baton Rouge.
