Ok.......still the guy was at North Texas for 11 years and didn't garner as much as an interview from anyone else.

AND??? Has he ever had a big time job and failed at it? No. Ok thanks for trying. That's my point.

Still not a good hire. And a hire would give him a 700k plus pay increase for what exactly? Being absolved of getting us crushed by the NCAA? Wow, thanks for playing.

Why is he not a good hire exactly? Yeah thought so. He has not had the opportunity at a big time school with big time resources. He may succeed, he may fail. YOU DONT KNOW. It's completely ludicrous and ignorant to call it a bad hire right now.

he's a former player and coach at LSU and doesn't deserve a lot of the things being said about him. He is chasing his dream to be LSU's coach. More power to him. I can't fault him for that at all.

I won't disagree with any of this, but lets not forget he had a big hand in putting LSU on probation that crippled the program for years.

For the love of God, please read my posts on the last 2 pages. Jones' name was cleared.

Exactly. He has no leverage, no other suitors trying to hire him to justify any considerable pay increase that we would have pay him to keep him above the profit losing women's team, and he's been decent at a sun belt team making 2 tourney's in 11 years and getting blown out both times. He's lost more than 10 games every year but one...in the sun belt.

He's a consistent 4th place in that conference. Resources? North Texas in the scheme of that conference probably outmatches most and sit in a far better recruiting position than their counterparts and he's still mediocre.

Jones has a 91-88 conference record.

I'm sorry, but he will not be the next LSU basketball coach. And if he is, fans have every right to be disappointed in the hire. On paper, it's a terrible hire, regardless of whether he eventually has success at LSU or not.

Even if someone was dominant at North Texas, it's a leap IMO to go from North Texas to LSU. But it's an even bigger leap to take an average North Texas coach and move to LSU.

People will never understand this concept. See the Alleva hire thread for confirmation.

Ever thought Jones may be able to recruit kids to LSU a little better than he could to North Texas?

Jones could come in and lock down this state. Not saying he will, or that I even want him to be hired. I would prefer Dixon. But I won't be disappointed if it is Jones.

You post half truths and claim victory. Jones legacy at LSU is cast in stone. Long live the BAGMAN.

Billy Donovan (with only 2 years HC experience) wasn't a huge leap from MARSHALL to Florida?

this isn't an endorsement, but I don't think he'd have one issue taking over at LSU.

Nope, it never crossed my mind. Who could have prepared for something like that? I never saw this argument moving in this direction and I have no clue how to respond.

Remember who you're talking to. Last week Mickey was telling us how Trent was going to bring us to the tourney next year. Obviously Trent lacked Mickey's blind faith.

You want to compare Billy's first two years to Jones'?

Before Hamilton left I think that was probable to be fair.
