Looking to have a large water oak trimmed and thinned out. Suggestions for reputable tree service companies out there?

You mean a national company or international?

Bofinger's Tree Service.
+1 on George. Him and his crew placed bets on which one of my water oaks they were going to have to take down next.

Jason Badon with total tree care. Used to work for him in highschool. Just came and took 2 pines and an oak out of my yard. Best on the Northshore anyway.

I've had a couple of run-ins with Shelby down the tangipohoa river. Would not use

Just make sure they got the proper insurance and stuff, especially if its near a house.

3rd on Bofinger. George is a great guy. Honest, upfront and his crew does great work. His office number is 225-755-8088. I own a landscape company and he is the only tree guy I have ever recommended.

When we were looking, we got several recs for Bofingers. They came out and quoted the job and we ended up getting another estimate from a guy working in the neighborhood. We ended up going with Ryan's Tree Service, who was about half of what Bofingers was.
Could have been because he was slow and George was booked up, or because he was working close by, but regardless we saved $2500. Did a good job.
Whatever you choose, I would get several estimates.

This
I do it in Cenla and I encourage people to get other estimates. If they arent trying to gouge you they have nothing to worry about. Then ask for insurance company to send you a COI when you decide who you want.

Estimates vary greatly, and you can never count on one company consistently being the low bidder. Depends on how much work they have, how well your job fits the manpower and equipment that they own or prefer to use at the time, etc. Don't be surprised if many operators either won't give you a bid at all, or just throw out some huge number that they figure will cover any contingencies if you're willing to pay that high price.
But definitely get the insurance document from their carrier, especially if it's not a major company.

Insurance is a must no doubt, but the second must is a company that has experence. Be very careful of new companys or even more important companys that have changed owners that might be riding off the old owners good name.Like i said insurance is a no brainer, but i would be pissed if some rookie dropped a tree on my house.
