Bull sharks scare me more than gators for sure. It is very surprising to me that there haven't been attacks on people wade fishing at Grand Isle, in Lake Pontchartrain or in rivers. There are probably thousands in local salt, brackish and fresh waters in this state. Much bigger than in that article as well.

I don't think there's ever been a question as to whether they exist in freshwater, but can they or do they reproduce in freshwater.

I've never seen this answered definitively.

I have seen it on TV in Australia. No reason to think anything different in LA. The theory is that the young have a better chance of survival in fresh versus salt water. IMO that theory is sound in basis.

This is a given. I was fortunate enough to attend the Mcrea Rock festival in 1971. 6 or 7 idiots drowned right off the bank. Whirlpools, current....deep water. Bad arse river.

I dont like being in a boat on the Atchafalaya! That river is the most unpredictable ever. We used to fish it alot and the LOGS I've seen suddenly shoot up from below is retarded! When the waters up, throw a branch in and watch it disapear, any dought you had would be done.

I recall hearing about one in GI in early 80s.....

had folks with a camp on hayne tell stories of a girl getting bit there.. almost lost a foot..

no doubt.

as for sharks in the spillway-- everytime the water gets low they are in the main channel.

we operate on the main channel due west of bayou sorrel (a long way from the gulf) and we have hooked schools of bull and sand sharks twice on trout lines out in the channel-- never in the jaw but in the back and in the fins. they school and by chance swim through the hooks and get caught that way. never caught one in a hoop net though.

They are alot more aggressive than great whites (which we don't need to worry about)and tiger sharks. I am surprised no one has been attacked yet.

I've been saying this.

I remember hearing about a bull shark in Lake Michigan a while back.
