Need advice on a hunting bike

So it looks like I'll be joining my first hunting club. I've always been lucky enough to get invited on hunts and also have a friend with 900 acres in Amite who lets me hunt whenever I want. But outside of an occasional doe, they just don't kill much deer there. And now they're starting to clear cut parts of it to sell the timber. So I'm moving on.
Got invited to a friends lease north of Pineville during the first week of January and had a blast. Thing is, I'll need a hunting bike to get around the lease on. It's 1800 acres. While there, I rode around with my buddy in his Mule. The windshield was a life saver from the cold wind. I decided that's what I want vs a 4 wheeler. Started doing a little looking on La Sportsman and saw alot of nice bikes, but I know nothing about which ones are the most reliable, powerful, etc.
Can anyone give me some advice on which ones you'd recommend and which ones to stay away from?
Thx guys.

Polaris - old indian word for "don't put it near the water"

I really liked the Polaris I had, but you're definitely right. If that belt sat in water for any period of time it would slip until completely dry.
To the OP, I haven't looked into them in a while, so things may be different now, but unless you're running through the marsh or always in deep water, don't rule out a Polaris.

I have a Kawasaki 3010 Mule...2 bench seats...never turned a screw on it in 4 seasons of duck hunting. Not fast, but fast enough. Very dependable and never been stuck.

quit calling it a bike. its a quad unless you are talking about buying a dirt bike with 2 wheels

The best thing for you to get would be a Polaris 500 Sportsman.. It would also be much smarter to buy one that has been worked hard, but, had a roof over its head for 12-15 years. The older ones sound like Cat dozers going through the woods, but, will get you to and fro.. That would be my reccomendation...
BTW, I forgot to mention that, coincidentaly of course,,, I do happen to have a couple of these same exact models,,, that I might be able to part with..

Get a honda. What size is strictly depended on what you like and what you want to do, but no doubt get a honda. Stay away from autos or electric shift jobs. Your best bet is a honda 4x4 with the regular ol foot shift and all-time four wheel drive.
ETA: I'm the first one to mention honda???

We have the Kubota 900 in in camo. It is a little heavy, but power steering is great and it will walk through anything you put in front of it. It also has a hydraulic dump bed- something you may not think you need but once you have it you will wonder how people can buy one without it.

I won't buy anything other than Honda. I had one that I took through hell and never had problems with. It got stolen so I bought a new one. I have the Foreman now and it does everythign I need it to do.

Anything reliable, affordable and with adequate 4wd is all you're going to need. The rest is just personal preference, obviously you don't want something to sound like a tractor going through the woods.

I got a 2011 Polaris 550 a few weeks ago.
It is a beast. I bought the Polaris because one of my oldest friends in the world sells them. I wanted the 500, but he told me to get the 550 so I did.
I am not going to try and tell you that you should definately buy this brand or that brand, because all of them make great machines now. Just look at several and buy the one that you feel like you are getting the best one. People are as partial to 4-wheeler brands as they are pick up brands.
