They average out your bills. So you don't get a $50 bill in the winter and a $300 bill in the summer.

For anyone that wants to read up on it.

Linkage

ETA: Thanks Geaux...was just reading about it on their website. Just moved into my house a year ago, so we have to wait another year.

Basically, Entergy will take the total of last years bills, and will get an average, and you pay that average all year long. You'll pay more than your monthly "bill" is when you have low usage, but in the summer, you'll pay less than what the monthly bills would be.

Same situation with me. So, you have to be in the home for at least two years before you can sign up?

They did this in Italy where I lived but when you moved they would come out and actually read the meter. I ended up only having to pay around $300-400... but some of my friends ended up owing the electric company over $1000 by the time they moved.

I posted a link a few posts up. It said that you have to have been a customer for 24 months. Guess so they can get a good feel for your average amount used.

I think this is correct.

The previous owners of my house had lived in it for approximately 2 years. I was able to see what the average bill would be levelizing it using their usage - and it was astronomically high. So, I waited about 8-9 months so my usage would be averaged in, and my levelized bill is significantly less than theirs would've been.

Do they average it out each year that you do it and set a new amount? Or at the end of the year if you haven't paid enough do they send you a bill for the extra amount? This is what I was concerned about.

That's what I'm wondering...

I'm sure they put an increase on the next month's bill to get what they didn't charge you for...or they have a surefire way to make sure this will never happen

they take an average of the last 12m, not calendar year. you don't get any extra bills.

We don't do levelized billing BUT I understood that they would "tack it on" to the last bill in the 12 month cycle and then restart the cycle ...

That's what I was talking about with the way the Italian electric company did it... after 2 years of living in a house I had friends that owed over $1000 in usage charges because of levelized billing

well I seriously doubt that Entergy is going to "let you owe" them anything...that's money they could be earning interest on!
