9mm for similar ballistics and ammo availability

This is why I like my 9mm's. I wouldn't know they were hard to find in the shortage because it's cheap enough to buy bulk and I keep a stockpile and haven't even looked for 9mm ammo in a couple years.

This is what I did.

I had my nice S&W stolen out of my truck and it pissed me off.

If this old as shite Glock gets taken, I won't be that upset.

hidden from plain view, but my understanding is that I probably can't have it in a holster under my steering wheel of sticking to far out of any side compartment...I don't want it in the glove compartment, and my center console isn't too deep so it can't be a 5" barrel

Is a 9mm a must for your arsenal?

I want one of everything at a minimum! In fact, I want 100 of everything. 9mm is a great round! It's fun to shoot, it's cheap and it's accurate. I think having a 9mm is a certain MUST for a modern firearm collection.

Not to threadjack, but I am a -major- .40 caliber fan. I saw a post on the first page saying 9mm is superior to .40. I am unsure of the arguments about that, but I absolutely love my .40.

Get a serpa and mount it between the console and seat on the passenger side. If you need it, just reach over and grab it. Will be much faster than reaching for your CC gun

I have an IMI Defense "serpa", and like it much better than the Blackhawk ones

is it practical to keep a cheap piece of plastic in my car, and if so is the 9mm the obvious choice...

anyway, my friend who is clearly less knowledgeable than the OB preaches that I need a 9mm, and if I get a cheap car pistol it has to be a 9mm?

No offense but:

1. Presuming you'd have the gun in your car for self-defense purposes, why on earth would you want anything "cheap" for this purpose. (Would it be loaded with really cheap ammo, too ?)

2. One also has to question your depiction of your friend as "clearly less knowledgeable than the OB." If you're sure about this, he needs some professional help.

I do need to conceal it. According the law, if I have a gun in my vehicle it needs to be concealed.

Even if you have a CCW permit ??

Yup. The permit is for conceal carry. Nothing more. The law in Texas says I can't have a firearm in my vehicle unless it is concealed.

Someone mentioned above about putting a Serpa holster in between the console and the passenger side. Well, if a cop decides to visit the passenger side of the vehicle on a traffic stop and observes a handgun, I'd imagine you could get in a little bit of trouble.

I hope Texas can see past the shenanigans of a few and pass an open carry law.

I know, that sounds dumb as frick. Why would they allow you to open carry outside your vehicle, but you have to conceal it inside your vehicle?

You can't open carry a pistol. You can walk around openly with an long gun all day.

My take on a 9mm.

I would not own one even after owning one. Sure, one can stack the hell out of it, BUT and I say BUT, after shooting it to really see the penetration on what it can do, I would NEVER would want to use it to protect my life with it. Really not much more then a .380.

There was a reason why the Marine Corps said screw that shite along with cops too! And yes, I can see as to why. Even after loading hot loads for the one I had.

For my truck, I carry a .357 revolver. One doesn't have to keep it clean and that SOB will fire no matter what. And yes, it will take a head off at 20 yards easy if the need ever came up.

Yup, it's unrelated to my concealed permit

In your vehicle it must be concealed, you don't need a conceal carry to carry to and from vehicle/home, though I do have one
