I know what you're getting at. I'm sure the body itself on a new ford is more rigid than a sheet steel one. Like my college professor said, pound for pound pretty much everything is stronger than steel.
My beef with the aluminum body is that it's unnecessary and drives up the cost of the truck. The weight savings are not substantial (the body itself is not 700lbs lighter than a steel one) and it scratches easy. It's a solution to a problem that didn't exist. When's the last time you saw body rust on a truck less than 25 years old?

Man, they are chasing weight like race car teams do.
They do it to shave weight to add more creature comforts and meet CAFE goals.
1/2 ton trucks are factored into CAFE. (not 3/4 ton)

Aluminum manufacturer of certain goods i affliate with determined this much. Their suppliers specifically named Ford as to the reason. This was convo between me and the plant manager. Take it for what you want.

Tell that to an engineer. GM and Dodge will be doing the same in a matter of years. They'll all go to all-alloy engine blocks like Ford has done too (with the exception of the CGI 2.7L). Just like all are moving away from welding to high strength epoxies to bond body panels and more plastic cladding with each generation. They have to cut weight and they can only do that by using less material or a lower-density one.

Come up to the Northeast and you'll see body rust on trucks that aren't even 10 years old.

Friend of mine in Pennsylvania had a pic the other day of an f150 that hit a guideline in the same position. Sheered the right side of the truck in much the same way.
I couldn't get the idiots to understand that any currently made vehicle would have faired the same way.
If a cable under a load snaps, I don't care of the truck is made of adamantium and mithril... the cable is going where it wants.

I was against that until I tried to dismantle a set of Denso seat rails to plop some scion seats into an offroader.
I broke the welds without issue, it took hours with a torch to handle that epoxy.
Suzuki was gluing body panels 30 years ago, it makes weld look like silly putty.

I think the F-150 would look great without paint like American airlines planes.
I guess it would need a clear coat to keep the aluminum from oxidizing and dulling.

My buddy's 09 F150 has a lot of spots underneath the rocker panels that just fell out. You could see through the bottom bedsides behind the cab. He had to tell me to stop touching stuff because the underside of his truck was just falling off when I did. He got his truck from a guide in Venice, but it is literally falling apart at 7 years old.
My 04 Silverado lived most of its life in PA. No rust on body panels, but it has a fair amount on the gooseneck frame and truck crossmember behind that. Everything else is perfect

Every single day of my life. Trucks in Minnesota/Wisconsin rust out with the quickness. It's not crazy to see a 6-8yr truck with rust issues.

Basically all metals are cheap right now. I used to work in the recycling industry in high school and regular scrap would bring $10-12 per 100. Nowadays it's $3-4 per 100 pounds. Aluminum has tanked as well along with copper and all other non ferrous materials.

shite is terrible right now. I used to scrap water heaters all the time, get $5-10 per unit, now they are worth virtually nothing.

It sounds like your truck was taken care of so you're lucky. There's plenty of GM's here in Kansas with rust issues from that generation. I know cause I've been shopping around for a good used project truck. Here all brands have rust issues if they're over 10 to 15 years old.

700 lbs total vehicle weight for Screw. The weights actually do not vary much between the engine configs.
I love my '16 F150 more every day. The light-on-its-feet feeling is what sold me on it in the first place. It drives like a lighter luxury SUV.
