Apparently it was cut open by the fire department- it's what they call the 3rd Door rescue if I understand.

I saw that too, context of the crash was it hit an 18 wheeler and the jaws of life were used to cut the a pillar and door away from the frame.

I wouldn't take the looks of the truck at that point as being unsafe.

That door looks really rigid

Are you suggesting the wreck was bad because it's got aluminum body panels?

The aluminum body F150 got the highest crash test rating. Any vehicle vs an 18 wheeler is going to lose badly.

Light weight aluminum not "a high-strength military-grade aluminum" like a F150

No, just really thick aluminum that matches what it would weigh if it were made out of sheet steel.

Aluminum bodies are engineered. Some folks making comments about the new aluminum bodies as if they flattened out a bunch of diet coke cans and made trucks out of them. Aluminum isnt what it was many years ago.

I dont have a dog in this hunt....i own a chevy

But I do know that ford, on its own, is driving up the bulk cost of aluminum

5 years ago, aluminum was about $2200 a ton. Now it's $1500 a ton. So, how ya figure Ford is driving it up? Obviously you have some insight into base metal commodity trades. So, enlighten us?
