Who has shot deer with em? My son uses it now a days and shot a bunch of deer with it. I bought two boxes of 170 grain core lokts today for him. I love that old gun.

Marlin 30-30 is my go to. Still grab that one over any others.

My first son was born October 6th and I hope he hunts with it when the time comes.

Yep. I still like it in the woods in close range. But I have a steel plate at 150 yds that rings hard. I've killed about 20 deer with the .30-30 over the past 25 years. Here is a 40 yard shot with 170 grain soft point. Thats the exit wound.

I missed a few with one when I was a teen. Later found out the gun just doesn't shoot straight

Very seldom do 'guns' not shoot straight and stay in use.

Unless I have a chance at longer than 100 yard shots, I'm grabbing the lever gun. Although, I did drop a doe at 135 a while back with it

My first deer was killed by one. Nothing beats the ole Marlin 336. Likely the best center-fire rifle out there for prepping due to its round capacity and cheap ammo.

My first deer was a big doe on thanksgiving morning i shot offhanded in a clearcut at about 180 yards with the marlin 336. Ive probably killed 40 or so deer with it, and handed it down to my son who shot his first deer with it(a little seven point) with a offhanded shot and his biggest deer another 7 point offhanded. Great shootin gun.

This one would be 2 feet high and the next shot a foot low. Bent barrel or something

Why would anyone want to shoot a cartridge that was developed in the 1800's and can't be factory loaded for modern guns because someone might plug a round into an old gun and blow it up? I guess the thought of shooting grandpa's gun is appealing.

I don't hunt pipe lines or anything that I can shoot more than 80-100 yrds. Still bring the marlin 30-30 and damn near every deer killed won't run more than 20 yrds.

Some people realize that it doesn't take a 300 WSM or some similar cartridge to kill a deer. If you never shoot at deer over 150 yards, there's no reason to own any other caliber really. It kills deer dead. All that being said, a 30-30 really isn't about the cartridge, it's about the rifles they are chambered in. They are short, light, and handle well.

Mine splits time about 50/50 with my .30-06

I have a 2-7 scope on mine. It's awesome to hunt with. The ol pop gun never sits on the rack for long.

Im happy to see all the geat responses about a gun that i love too. I have a friend who is 66 years old and never killed a deer, he asked me if i had a gun he could borrow and i just smiled. Maybe the old 30-30 will strike again.
