2-7 is on my old 35 remmy. Love that gun.

If I didn't gave it (from my dad) I would definitely go but a marlin 336. That's a must have for any outdoorsman

My little 336 Remlin. I don't shoot this thing anywhere nearly as much as I should these days. Have some handloads to try out with it too. Planning on putting a lower mounted variable on there to replace the cheap 9x.

I haven't used my 30-30 since I quit hunting Joyce ~5 years ago. Time to dust her off and take her out this year. Thanks fellas

Damn, this is one expensive arse gun. WALMART had a 45-70 model by Marlin for $589. Can't imagine how much a 30-30 is.

Just checked. $389 at Academy, but there are different grades IIRC. I think mine was only like $250 15 years ago

it's about the rifles they are chambered in. They are short, light, and handle well.

For stalkers and brush shooting, it would be counterproductive to move around with a bolt gun. A bolt doesn't really start to shine until about 150 yards.

How many Louisiana deer are taken at 200 yards? 300 yards? 1 in 8? 1 in 10? Even from a stand, most shots are 75 to 125 yards - at most.

Why would anyone want to shoot a cartridge that was developed in the 1800's and can't be factory loaded for modern guns because someone might plug a round into an old gun and blow it up? I guess the thought of shooting grandpa's gun is appealing.

I killed my first three deer with an old Marlin 30/30!!

It used to scare the crap out of me to chamber a round because I knew that I had to barely release the hammer...

I use my 336 Marlin in the Honey Island, use a 3x9 Tasco Golden Antler with see through mounts, usually shoot 150's... Not many shots over 50 yards...

Realize it's not the greatest scope, but if I drop it in a slough, I'm don't have to worry....

Out of all the firearms i own i still do not have a lever gun. It is definitely on my list. ANy of you lever gun hunters use the hornady leverevolution rounds?

I had very poor results from them in my .30-30 and have seen some shitty .45-70 results also. I wouldn't use them.

How'd I know you would be in here hating in 30-30's

Still love using my dad's that I used growing up. For me it's a confidence thing. I hunt a lot of places I can't see very far so it works fine. And when I pull the trigger they lay down.

how's the kick on these rifles? Anything as bad as 45-70?

Same. Check the Federals. Using the Leverevolutions I had 2 close, well placed shots run off (both deer recovered) but should not have happened.

Hey, at least I speak from experience. I have no idea why I still own that thing. I'll probably eventually trade it for a pistol. Or maybe something with some actual utility, like a Judge.
