Not familiar with 3 tand. What type of drag? sealed?

Yeah sealed. It's a fairly new company. Heard lots of good things though.

I have a question. Not trying to start anything I just don't know. Why is a sealed drag better than a cork drag?

I have only one reel that is a sealed drag. Its the Van Staal C-Vex. Haven't had many chances to use it verses all my other reels so I don't have an opinion on it.

just curious.

It's not.

They are both equally as good. Where one falls short, the other excels.

Tibor holds the most IGFA world records and he only recently developed a sealed drag reel.

T10 to go on a 9 weight rod. Moving the Finatic 7+ (Bought used or else I'd be kicking myself after getting a galvan) to my 8 weight

Galvan makes a great reel, but the Hatch is better for sure.

I like the hatch, haven't fished with the galvan yet. Haven't really tested the Hatch, just skipjacks and a few small specks, but for the price is it that much better? I mean the galvan is like $300 cheaper brand new and it feels like every bit the reel. I actually like the handle better on the galvan

Buddies have been catching bull reds consistently under the Hathaway bridge in PC/PCB on top water, so I'm hoping to put both reels to the test soon. 35 pound redfish should do the trick

That's a question only you can answer, and honestly, probably not. Galvans are great, but I've seen drag issues (to clarify, two) with them after prolonged heavy use. I've never seen a Hatch reel or its components fail under similar circumstances, but that's not to say it can't happen. To me, Hatch is in line with Nautilus, Tibor, the Allen Omega, etc.

Galvan would be in line with Ross, Lamson, Orvis, the remainder of the Allen line, etc. Obviously this is just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions . I don't want you to think I'm shitting on your reel because I'm totally not. Galvans are awesome. I think my first post came off that way. All I really meant was that you shouldn't kick yourself for buying a Hatch over the Torque, because IMO the Hatch is a seriously proven reel. There are entire saltwater guide outfits in the Caribbean that run Hatch reels exclusively, and multiple guide friends I have here run Hatch reels exclusively.

Haha na I didn't take it that way. Just meant that the feel and eyeball test indicated that these reels were pretty close in quality. Of course the true test comes on the water. Funny you mention Nautilus, I went back and forth on that and Galvan

I bought a NVG early this year and I love it. My only issue with it is that there's no sound retrieving line, but I've gotten used to that.

I bought this combo in an 8 weight. I don't want to invest alot of money into this yet until I get my feet wet. I've been on a few paid charter trips in Montana and have the itch to fly fish for some reds out my kayak. Did I waste my money or will this suffice until I figure this out? Thanks guys

You didn't "waste your money"

But if you get hooked (that'll probably take one redfish), you're going to upgrade and the cabelas will collect dust.

I knew it was a high liklihood I would get hooked, so I went with great gear from the jump
