Edited because after reading your other posts I think you may just be that ridiculously redneck and I thought I was too harsh. Just know that nothing you have posted would be considered normal behavior in almost any sense.

Gotcha.

I just don't think a routine needs to be stressed. They need food, water, and decent living conditions. After that, it's all lagniappe

Good to know your chickens are trained and don't shite in your spare bedroom. Because you don't allow it.

I RAd. Please leave the OB.

You sir are rude. I'm simply giving the man my generations of successful chicken raising advice and you think this is a joke.

My chickens aren't laying like they used to so I'm considering replacing them.

How old are they?

I have 8. 3 RIR, 2 white Leghorn, 2 black hens, and a buff orphington. I got rid of my rooster. Didn't need him.

Mine quit laying about a week ago but I'm stacked with eggs so I don't mind.

If you want them to lay, sprinkle some cayenne pepper on their feed. It will get them going. About 2 tablespoons of it for my 9 had them laying like crazy for a month. It worms them and all. Good stuff. For 3 chickens give em a teaspoon on top of their feed.

I let mine out every day for a little while. They ate all the grass in their 15x20 pen. I built a small chicken tractor but my wife wanted more hens so it's just sitting up. Easiest animals to raise.

We built a coop with hardware wire all around, even on the floor. We let them out during the day. Not anymore. Yesterday the Barred Rock was attacked. Not sure if she will survive.

A Trainer would have to make even better money.

The first evening I had my chickens, they marched right up the ladder and into the coop on their own. Next morning at daylight, they headed out into the yard to feed. Perfectly trained the first day. Maybe I should hire myself out as a Trainer. I've got the touch.

ETA: OK, I'll stop now. I'm done.

Lol, guy was being serious and you guys thought he was trolling.

All he meant was that they prefer the same routine every day and it will mess up their routine/ egg laying routine if you let them out in the yard only during the weekends.

I'm pretty sure by 'sitter' he simply meant someone to come over and let them out in the morning and locked up in the evening.

Now, the living in a bedroom thing is a little out there but hey whatever floats your boat.

If you have a rooster, how do you keep him from fertilizing the eggs?

First, you can eat a fertilized egg if you pick it up soon after being laid. For me in Metairie, when I discovered I had a rooster I called a byddy in the country and gave it to him. Did not want to be a nuisance. I have heard someone with a rooster a few blocks away when it crows. Lol...... Actually most of my neighbors say they wouldn't mind hearing a rooster crow but I had one years ago that would crow at 3:00 am. He had to go. But, for those that don't know it, and there are those that think that a chicken can have chicks without a rooster and those that think roosters lay eggs too. Lol........

You can eat fertilized eggs. Development doesn't start until the hens sits on the eggs. Visually You won't even be able to tell a difference between the two.

There are lots of places to get chicks but if you want them sexed you will have to most likely buy them from a breeder. We bought 6 pullets (hens) from a local feed store and 1 ended up being a rooster. Don't buy straight run.
