$80/week on gas

I'd spend that in a day if I drove my truck to work.

If the guy can afford it what difference does it make? Some people can afford a 45k truck while others can't. I work my arse off and line driving a nice vehicle. If you like driving a beater that's your choice. I like my air conditioned leather seats!

I can get on board with this. I wouldn't do it but what a man does with his own hard-earned money is none of my business. Got a friend who's got a big F-250 loaded out, brush guard, jacked up, fog lights, etc. Said he pays a 12 pack shy of grand per month for it. AND he's got another truck the same size but in a Dodge. And it's maybe a year old. To each his own.

You just described me. I do also have a 16 foot skiff that I frequently tow. This is why I bought a Dodge Dakota v6 as my truck. I really wanted a full size but, I just couldn't justify the expense of ownership and operation.

I really wish that mid size trucks would make a comeback. GM is about to release a completely redesigned Colorado that seems to have some potential in the smaller truck market. I hope other manufacturers follow. Ford still sells the Ranger worldwide, except in the U.S. They even have a Diesel in it.

Small trucks with small diesels would be fantastic.

Problem is manufacturers think that a truck needs a million hp to sell. Make a truck that gets 35mpg. It's easily doable and would sell like hot cakes. We'll never see it though.

My 2010 F-150 had 190,000 Miles on it when I traded it in 3 months ago. I got a Tundra and in 3 months I've put 13,900 miles on it. I'm in chemical sales and need a truck with room, to carry all of my equipment and sample chemicals for testing. With the way my expense check works out on mileage, it covers my gas, note, maintenance, insurance and my weekend gas. I love my job!

I do wish ford would bring the ranger back to the US. Our vehicle selection here is pretty shitty compared to a lot of the world

I completely agree. Dodge is putting a TD 4 (Fiat truck engine)in their 1500's but, it costs a small fortune. They discontinued the Dakota a few years ago.

Us small truck guys have Toyota Tacoma, Nissan frontier and Chevy Colorado's. That's all we have to pick from these days.

I work shift work and average 17 work days a month.I live in SW Miss and drive to BR.Its 67 miles from my gate to the plant. My truck gets 15.6 MPG if I BABY it.I average about a $100 a week if I just go to work and back.I thought about the option of having a little car but by the time you figure insurance and upkeep it doesnt make sense.

My BIL lives on an 8 acre place outside of Folsom, and he often has to haul stuff for the upkeep of his place. But he didn't want a PU. He bought a Ford Expedition with the towing package and a 4 wheeler car transport trailer. If he needs to haul something he hitches up and goes. And he still has the room of an Expedition when he needs to go someplace with my sister and their girls.

Yep. New vehicles lose 20% of their value the day it is driven off the lot.... So essentially 20% is thrown away on Day 1

Bought my truck new with 1 mile on it. 08 Dodge ram Quad Cab Laramie 4X4

31.5 out the door. Sticker was 44

5 years and 50k miles later (deployments keeping down mileage) It's worth 23-24k still.

8k for 5 years of use seems like it'd rival any used car purchase along with increased maintenance fees

Nothing wrong with a Tacoma. That rich dude who was getting in the $7500 club had one.If its good enough for him it oughta be good enough for the rest of us common folks.

I got a black one last year with the 5.0, and my brother just bought an ecoboost FX4. You're going to love it, congrats.

There's absolutely no reason toyota cannot put a 4 banger 2 liter diesel in a tacoma.

shite the little bitch diesel in my car makes 250ish ft-lbs. That's PLENTY enough to handle some towing and in a tacoma would probably get 35mpg all day every day.

I hope that the new diesels in the grand cherokee and dodge 1500 will increase demand for diesels here, and car makers offer them in more cars.

Probably would if it was a ford or chevrolet. I don't see dodge half tons taking over the market.
