IDK if you'd call that the carbine, but that's the cheapest model. If you want just a gun to have, not a bad option. like said though, if you want to shoot a lot, get the better models.

you can check them out on ruger's website

Yes, with the blued barrel and wood stock. Nothing wrong with it, but I would want the synthetic/ stainless for 50 bucks more.

Use it for a while, end up scrapping the stock for a folding stock, end up putting a bull barrel or painting it flat black.

That is what I am thinking. Base model and just upgrade it down the line. All I want it for right now is to mess around at my buddy's farm

I bought just a basic wood stock carbine. Replaced the stock with a Hogue overmold stock and but a bull barrel on it. It will shoot the arse off a fly at 50yds.

Just have a cheap Bass Pro 3-9x40 scope on it.

Planning on replacing the trigger and thinking about a tactical solutions barrel at some point as well.

I like the reviews on it, and the price. I just want a .22 to go sit on the back of my buddy's truck and shoot pears out of his tree. I don't think a $300 gun is needed for that

I've got a Marlin semi auto. I'm sure it's cheaper than the 10/22. Shoots good enough for squirrels and dillos.

I just picked up an old glenfield model 25 from a friend and plan to re-blue the barrel and redo the stock. You can probably pick up a used bolt action .22lr for less than $100 but as most said it is hard to beat the ruger 10/22. I also have a browning .22 take down.
Quite a bit more expensive than the ruger though.

I love my 10/22 - get the base model at walmart or academy - Walmart was cheapest when I got mine several years ago. Then go online to midway or CTD and accessorize as you wish.

or

Go to the pawn shop and pick up a little .22 for about $100 and go shoot.

My says I have way too much in it, but my guess is about $400 total.
