Do you need a powerpole with the iPilot? I want to get one them for my boat just wanted to hear what some of the advantages of each, thanks.

I mostly fish inshore

How many batteries are you planning to keep on board? If you are fishing in moving water or a breeze, iPilot is going to go through some power keeping you in place. That said, powerpoles are not "needed." Anchors have done well for years.

I have both and use the power pole 10 to 1 over i pilot. If I had to choose one it would be a power pole all day every day. I pilot is only good for the few spots I fish that the power pole can't reach.

I like to be anchored with very little movement when inshore red fishing. I have both the I pilot and power pole but don't use them together, just still too much movement and noise for me on windy days.

I fish a lot with my wife and while she can do a lot I still have to deal with the boat operation stuff.

When I get within 50-75 yards of a spot I shut off the motor, raise it and move to the front of the boat. With a touch of a button I deploy the IP and use it to get into position. Once there I hit a button to deploy the power pole and use a "stick it" pole in the front putting it on the up wind side of the boat. I have found it to be much better than a cajun anchor.

"LINK /

I move short distances a lot so I pick up the "stick it", raise the PP and engage the IP, again all sitting in a chair on the front deck of the boat.

For me it would be difficult to be without either one. By the end of the day my trolling motor batteries are less then 50% of power, so if I used it for anchor purposes I would be completely out of power.

I have a 24 volt trolling motor on a 19' fish master. Just trying to see if I can use just one I fish with my wife and i am trying to make it easier on myself when I am on the trolling motor to stop and help her without the boat going all over the place. Not sure I can afford both right now. I guess which should I get first

Really depends on how you fish.... do you use a trolling motor alot moving while u fish? Do you just pull in and anchor and when u fish?

If you only buying one then I say ipilot. I put one on my boat last year and love it. I didnt want to put the money out for both at the time. But if its windy or alot of current it can really work hard to keep u in position. If we gonna stay a while I'll throw down my cajun anchor and let
the ipilot chill.

But before next season Im adding a power pole to my boat.

I have them both. I'm ready for it all haha.
I fish everywhere inshore to the coast. Both have their advantages. Great on their own and even better together. I really like driving the TM from the back of the boat

Why in the hell would you want to walk to the front of the boat and drop the ipilot ( which is a pain in the arse ) and find the remote to spot lock it instead of just dropping the power pole down with a touch of a button ?

one the I pilot isn't a pain, its pretty simple to deploy. two, the power pole is only good for so many feet. I use the I pilot all the time in deeper water and offshore. keeps me where I need to be and I don't have to throw an anchor.

so to OP yes a power pole and an pilot is a very nice addition to a boat.

This is not true. IPilot will save your battery energy vs you controlling the trolling motor to keep the boat in the correct position. Whatever your current battery setup is for your trolling motor will work fine for the same iPilot lb/thrust trolling motor.

powerpole for when you don't want to move at all in relatively shallow water.

Ipilot for when you want to stay in a general area or follow a track/contour line.

I have both and recommend both to anyone that can afford it. They both make fishing a little simpler and more enjoyable when you learn how and where to use each. When the winds pick up, you are in shallow enough water, and chasing fish that move, the power pole comes into its own. When you are in deep water, in relatively low winds and fishing a school that stays put, the ipolt comes into play.
Ipilot is also nice to to have while tending to others things in the boat, rods, GPS, baits, kids, etc

2 powerpoles and an ipilot are on my wish list for my next boat. If you're going to do it, do it big.

I did limit out in Grand Isle Saturday with my iPilot in the shop and no powerpole on my boat... some would tell you its impossible to fish without one or the other!
