La, Miss anything from .243, .260, 7mm08, 6.5x55, .25-06 should be fine.

A 140 gr bullet at 2700 fps will behave the same whether it's shot from the 260 Rem, 6.5 Swede or 6.5 Creedmore. The key is proper bullet selection and placement.

I built an AR15 in 277W for the exact reason, recoil for my kids and girls. It is now my everyday gun. It's killed them all dead and blood trails were way better than 243/7mm08.

I love carrying an AR, tote it frontwards out of the way never grabbing limbs and plenty of room for backpack or stand on your back. It is lighter and shorter than my 270, and kicks like a 410.

300 BO is too slow and will tumble and not expand at times.

6.8 SPC is what you are looking for since i'm assuming you don't reload. If you reload look at 277W (Wolverine) Mad Dawg Weapon systems.

Yes, the 300 BO is not a high velocity round, but when used properly it's still a very effective deer hunting round.

It tumbles only w/ heavy bullets at subsonic velocities. Since those bullets don't expand at subsonic velocities, tumbling is how they cause internal damage. The lighter expanding bullets at supersonic velocities expand like a typical hunting bullet and do not tumble.

260 Remington, the rifle that should be more popular than the 6.5 Creedmoor.

And the .264 win mag should be more popular that 6.5prc, 6.5x47, 6.5-300 wby mag, etc.

Remington put the bullets in a very slow twist barrel that only took very light bullets as did Winchester with the .264.

Both cartridges were a victim of poor marketing and engineering.

Shot that until I couldnt get brass for it without paying 4x what it was actually worth.

Remington got a chance to do it right after failing the first time and they failed again.

Didn't the .280 Rem start life with the same problem?

Lots of legacy calibers did. Speed was the name of the game pre-rangefinders. High BC, accuracy, and brass life are the new game since everyone who shoots far is toting a rangefinder

The 280 started out as low pressure and mediocre velocity for use in Remingtons 760 jamomatic. Years later they upped the velocity and renamed it the 7mm express. People were confused and the name was changed back but the better velocity stayed, but too little, too late.

It’s a good example of many new cartridges that are introduced.
It was a direct competitor to the 270, and probably a better all around cartridge.
But the 270 was long established and the 280’s improvements over the 270 were too marginal to make much, if any difference in real applications.

Sell it and buy a rifle with easily available ammo.

I tried to sell it and was offered Pennys on the dollar for it. So I bought a Savage 308 and I’m very happy with it, and ammo is about $30 per box!

I enjoy a good bash the creedmoor thread as much as anyone, but it still would have been created even if the 260 was a household name, and it still would have kicked it out of the house.

I have a .280 and it's a great round, I started out shooting 160 grain Federal premium but they stopped offering it.

Me too .... and I own (and don't hesitate to hunt with) a 6.5 Cripplemore. These threads are almost as much fun as making fun of guys who think an AR is a deer rifle!

The 280 AI is simply a 280 Rem loaded to its potential. Hornady and others used to sell "bolt action only" 280 Remington loads that were loaded like they should have been from the start. They pushed 140 grain lead core bullets at 3100 fps.

Remington has shite the bed on almost every cartridge they came out with. The 6mm Remington is another example. The populous chose a rifle originally intended for varmints, 243 Win, over it. I have seen way more passthroughs with a 6mm Rem than a 243. I am glad the 6.5 CM is replacing the 243 as gun shy cartridge, but the 260 was supposed to do that and Remingtion failed.

It's a testament to where we are that you're saying that as a good thing!

I purchased some .300 Savage ammo in a Bowie Outfitters auction recently that had a $49.99 price tag on each box. And reloading costs aren't better - powder is $60/lb., cup and core bullets are $35/100 and if you can find primers you're going to pay $150/1,000 - and God help you if you have to buy new brass. I can't put together a .270 round for much cheaper $1 a round, and that's using a Hornady interlocks and recycled brass. I could buy equivalent Winchester factory ammo cheaper at any Walmart before Covid.
