We had a Rem Model 7 in 243. He took it to Mike Foreman in Jonesville and had it turned into a 7mm-08. Huge improvement. The match grade barrel and McMillan stock didn't hurt anything either.

Stay away from the 770. Get a 700 or a 7 if you want a remington.

Savage makes good stuff. No experience with anything weatherby makes.

Why not a semi auto? Effectively reduce recoil, without splitting hairs on caliber.

Well that is a thought. But dont feel like spending $1000 on a decent auto and not getting much use from it.

I was actually thinking about a single shot Rossi, but sort of talked my way into a bolt action.

I HATE the .243 so much it isnt funny. It keeps my blood dog busy with hits that shouldnt have required a dog.
Ah yes.

BTW, the correct answer is: .338 Lapua.

I'm just going to jump here with nothing real to add other than the fact that I grew up shooting a .243 and never had a problem with it. In fact, I find that I was much more accurate shooting it in my youth than I am now.

Why haven't any of you experts mentioned the 30-30? With all of her hunting / shooting experience she obviously should not be talking shots over 100yrds. Its a gun for kids and adults. Relatively inexpensive and the ammo is super cheap. Not to mention its probably killed just as many whitetail across the country as any other caliber.

Just my 2 cents! Carry on!

Mine says that "Hunt" tracks more deer for arrogant hunters with large calibers talking shots they shouldn't be.

Point being - practice - practice - practice.

243 - 7mm At the end of the day you have to be able to shoot the damn thing.

I'm sure the recoil generated is about the same. I just find the marlin 336 to be a very uncomfortable gun to shoot any way except standing up. I don't enjoy sighting in my .30-30 at all.

FYI, I consider everyone on TigerDroppings to be a babbling retard of some sort.
