My wife is a large animal vet and she sees a lot of farm dogs around this time of year that get bit. The larger dogs seem to handle the bite fairly well. We have two pits, one of which she takes pretty much everywhere and he's been bit twice now. She just gives him some benadryl and keeps an eye on him and tells most people who call to do the same.

Yeah the snake only lived for another 8 seconds or so...then lost his head.

Luckily we decided to take her in quickly, the vet said if we would've waited until this morning the swelling could've closed her nasal tubes, since the bite was on the tip of her nose.

Thanks for the well wishes guys, she's like my child.

Hope your pup gets well quick. I saw at my Vet. they have a snake vaccine for dogs. Anybody try this? If they have a vaccine fir dogs you would think they should be able to make one for humans also????

I had a dog get bit as well when I lived in LA, probably a copperhead and was able to treat w/ Benadryl, bite was on leg as I recall. A padnah just had a pup bit badly – I moccasin he thinks – had to take pup to vet clinic and it was not cheap. Good w/ your pup

$700 is nothing when helping a family member. I would pay any amount i could afford to take care of my dogs if something happened. Hell i been making facebook post, craisglist post, calling animal shelters, and putting flyers out all weekend because the neighbors dog is lost.... bad part is im not even doing it for them!! We loved the dog, it came to our house every day and we played with it. Memorial day weekend they took it about 8-9 miles away to some of their property and shot a gun, the dog took off scared and hadnt seen it since. Hope we find it.

I've only had my pup for a few months now, but if a snake got him, I'd have that bitch stuffed to make a chew toy for him. Love me some snakes, but ain't nothin' like a good pup.
