This thread sounds like a Roger Creager song

I come from South LA Catholics on both sides. Tons of kids all around and not much money. Not much extra so I have only gotten one but it's badass. I got my grandpas Winchester M59 12 gauge

Explains why Pops says you will get all his guns.

S & W 686 . stainless .357 revolver and S & W .38 hamerless revolver. Came the wrong way though. Up line instead of down. Son knew I favored old fashioned wheel guns and he wanted his mom to have another small revolver for purse or car. He never mentioned that while he was sick and left lots of other guns for his young son but when his widow delivered those two from him to his mom and me we knew he was thinking of us to the end and wanted us to be ok after he was gone.
ETA: miss that boy everyday.

Damn that jerked a tear from this daddy.

I have a couple that I'll never part with.

Have a Browning SA22 that was the first new gun my dad ever bought. Had my uncle pick it up from the PX after he got back from his last tour in Vietnam. Uncle died a little later that year. So I'll always have an attachment to that one.

Other one is SW model 66 357 combat magnum that my grandmother gave me a week before she died. My grandfather kept it at their trout dock just in case. I still have the original box and it looks like it has never been shot.

Dreading the day my dad passes on his Winchester 97s to me. One was grandpas and one was his. His has interchangeable chokes but grandpas was fixed modified. You can hear them pump almost as far as you can hear them shoot. 1000s of swamp rabbits died to those old thing. Hope he can hang on to those for another 50 years.

Thanks. I try not to be a downer on this board my son loved and introduced me to but every so often I can't help myself when certain topics come up .Only gun I inherited from my dad was a 9 shot .22 revolver, the brand of which I would have to go look. But I remember to this day him taking 8 year old me into gun store and buying me a Browning sweet -16 as my first gun and a Browning auto 22 at age 10 and a Rem. -742 30-06 auto at age 12 , all of which I still have. Those were supposed to go to my son. Last thing I wanted was guns coming from him to me.

He was the greatest . He didn't t spend much time hunting. Too busy trying to support his family but wanted me to have every opportunity to hunt and enjoy the outdoors. I did my best to pass that along to my son and he took it and ran with it until unluck of the draw cancer ended his life at 35.

Got any idea of a value? Looks pperfect.

Not really sure honestly. But it's 102 years old and the finish on it is pretty excellent. I've only field stripped it once after me and dad shot it.

Looks like an artillery version. But what's the 9 mean? Do you have the drum mag?

I think the 9 stands for "9mm Luger" since the original Luger was 7.65x21mm.

I was unaware about the drum mag. Have a picture of one? I'm pretty sure my dad only has one magazine.

I only have 1 inherited gun - my granddads Marlin 30-30. I love the gun, but other than knowing it was my Granddads, I don't have any memories of it. He only shot one deer in his life - a doe - He used this gun to do it. I killed my first deer with it as well - and several others for a few years. I couldn't even remember seeing the gun until he passed away and my uncle brought it to me. Although I am sure it was in his old glass front gun cabinet when I was little. My uncle had taken it for safe keeping when his health started to fail.

He also gave me a shotgun as a gift - that gun means more to me because it was not only my first gun, but I carried it in the woods with him when we would go after squirrel, rabbit or doves.

Two of them.
1946 J,C. Higgins 12 ga and 1961 Remington Nylon 66 from my dad.
Crawled my first geese with the 12 ga. circa 1969. My son now hunts with it.

My grandfathers Winchester Model 1200. Its a plain old 12 guage but its the only thing I have of his. This brings up a good question. The front sight bead is missing on it. Should i replace it to look as it was or is putting a fiber optic front sight not to terrible? This is something i have been meaning to do forever.

Any idea what grade? That could be a pretty valuable gun...

I checked this out about 10 years ago and was told it was worth about $1100.00 because is did not have the other barrel with it.
I would be curious if you know where to go to find out additional information on this.
TIA
