Anyone who wants to participate in the proposed project should be able to. If that were the case i wouldn't have a problem with it.
But if I can go catch red snapper today and you can't simply because I report my catch data, which you are also perfectly able to do if allowed, is bullshite.

Again. Lotteries are nothing new.

Why should I buy a license if I'm not getting my fair share? Why should these 150 be privileged?
Posted on 5/25/17 at 10:17 pm to BigHoss
Lottery hunts on WMAs are a false comparison. They limit access and the resulting harvest from defined geographic areas of limited size. We can only take so many turkeys or deer or Gators off of a given WMA so we need to limit the number of opportunities to take one.
The limited access in the proposed program is not to control take.
In fact, the limited access is directly counter to the offered reason of "data collection." I'd submit that here more data would be preferred.

Anyone trying to claim that giving 150 recreational fishermen (and their guest's I would assume) was done to improve the statistics and science behind red snapper management can eat a big fat donkey dick washed down with Hammer's knuckles.
That bug eyed inbreed bitch of a governor has been on board with transferring red snapper from all residents to a select few and this is just another step in that direction. (Despite what he may have said in the past about supporting rec's and their right to a fair and equitable share of this government owned resource.)
This does not surprise me one bit and it won't be long before the state season gets closed or a tag system gets enacted.
Edited to correct: JBE is a bug eyed INbreed bitch of a governor. I doubt those bug eyes a pin size head are a result of cross breeding.

Anyone that thinks we are at a 3 day season because of a lack of data to incredibly naive, the crooked arse gulf council just likes to use that excuse as it's convenient for them. Recs and the states could give them the best and most accurate data ever seen and they'd just dismiss it to make sure the snapper barons that line their pockets continue to get theirs first. Until the states are given control of the waters off their coast to 200 miles and all power is stripped from Crabtree and his cronies nothing is going to change and Buddy G will still be telling the recs to leave his fish alone.

How much per year you pay for them spots?? Can you get me in touch with who you lease them from?
Posted on 5/26/17 at 6:41 am to Timmayy
My question would be is it individual or my boat? Do i have to fish alone, cuz that would suck
Posted on 5/26/17 at 7:18 am to Bullredbf
Harvested on your boat, but you have to own it
FWIW there are only 146 spots left as hoss, jab, JBE, and I will automatically receive one for our trial run of the ap

I'm on the fence with this. On one hand, we will collect data and prove that LA can manage the fishery. On the other, the method by which it is being done has many flaws.
It is basically taking the commercial catch shares program and scaling it down. No recreational folks like the catch share issue because it takes a public resource and splits it up among a few lucky anglers. If recreational fishing is headed in that direction, fishing is about to get alot more expensive.
I volunteer with CCA and I can be critical of them often, but here, they are right. The way this was done by LDWF was shady. While they have no obligation to consult with CCA or any conservation group, they were quite disingenuous. Hiding the program during a 2 hour meeting about Snapper management? That's bullshite. Bowing to the feds by using their catch shares method--even more bullshite.
there are better ways.

According to this thread if I turned it down I would doing a dis service to the great state of Louisiana, since we are in such diar need of this precious "data"

I read the article. More complete horse shite. People are fed up to the point where they will be going offshore in federal waters and catching a few big endangered snapper with zero fricks given to the government.

This is the part I'm not understanding. How is this a scaled down version of catch shares? Sure the pilot program is gonna pick 150 at random but my understanding is this is just being done as a "beta" test for the app, and it would eventually come to replace LA CREEL as a harvest estimation, and would be open to all recreational. As long as the Magnuson-Stevens Act exists the fishery will always be under SOME quota.
I'm not getting how this is being cast as a lottery program. In it's maturity it would just be a real time data tool, right? Or is the plan to always draw from a hat who gets to take advantage of it?
