About 150 +/- 10 yards. Just don't get many shot opportunities past that where I hunt.

How is it ethical to shoot a deer at 250+ knowing you may just cripple a deer

For many it's not. The majority of hunters only shoot their rifles to check if it's still sighted in. That's normally not the practice needed for long shots.

I shoot on average about 30-40 rounds a week from 200-1200 yards. Most of my shooting is from 200-700 in my back yard. I practice in all conditions to be prepared but I still won't shoot a deer past 500 yards, there is too many variables for my skill level. However I don't feel the same way about a hog and I have shot many of them past 500 yards, the club I am in one of it's draws to me is LONG gas and power lines that have a long line of sight. I LOVE sitting on them and picking off hogs.

Same. Maybe 175. I don't think I've ever hunted somewhere were I could shoot past 200-250 yards.

303 yards on a doe with a Remington model 700 LSS and 297 with a tikka .308 freehand standing on a yote. I had a range finder to verify both kills. The Doe was off the front of a Polaris ranger with My Buddy Corey and my buddy Jacob and the yote Was with my buddy Daniel. I have the opportunity to shoot 800 to 1500 yards at our ranch in south Texas but wouldn't even know the hold over those kind of shots.

230 steps with a 6.5x55 swede

Tons of opportunity to shoot farther than that. I had a chance to shoot a deer at about 600 on Saturday. We have stands you could shoot a mile out of if you had the optics for it. I wouldn't be comfortable shooting much past 200 yards propping up on a deer stand though. it just isn't a good enough prop for that.

I did dirt roll a coyote at about 200 yesterday evening on a trot

WTF. But seriously, ive lost more deer with a bow at short ranges than with rifle. Ive shot deer at 300 with regularity since i was 16 years old, im 43 now. I only shot one at 500 yards and she took ten steps and crumpled. I dont try to outshoot anyone just hunting man. If i can hold it still it is a ethical shot. Good luck men.

I killed a 60lb doe at 245 with my 30-06

Didn't realize she was a baby but the shot was perfect. Dropped her.

I work at a desk in NOLA, one time I sent a field guy to check on a rig in North Dakota, and he smoked one with the company truck. Should I count it?

You can only count it if he was ordered to slam on the brakes on a snowy road. Then had him whip it around at hit the deer with just the trailer ball.....to save meat. Then remember 24 years later that is was 31 degrees, 36 percent humidity, with a 18 mph wind outta the WNW.

Longest I have ever made was 275 with a 6mm rem.
Watched my brother shoot a deer from the other side of a field once. My range finder said 500 and thats as far as it will go and I was closer to the deer than he was. He was shooting a 7mag. It was really cool to watch the fire come out of the barrel and it took two or three seconds for the sound to hit me. The deer just donkey kicked and fell over.

I've only ever shot 5 deer. But the first one, when I was 15, was at 173 paces down a right of way running full speed toward me. I had missed the first shot on the poor bastards mom at 250. The mom and another doe bailed off into the woods and the baby took off toward me at full speed.

I want to see the original, unedited version - had to be classic.
