Leeville has the potential to be something great. It's the attitude of the people that live there that keep it in a perpetual state of disrepair. Residents are preventing Leeville from becoming anything other than a gas station at the foot of a bridge that leads to a better place.
fyi, I agree with all of this.

because they don't want outsiders there, they're happy with the way things are. it may look like a dump to some of you, but they like it
This would make sense if Leeville could support itself. People in Leeville have to leave Leeville for everything. No schools, no hospitals, nothing to support a community. What do people in Leeville do when they need a pair of shoes? You don't get to pull the no outsiders card when you, yourself, are an outsider everywhere you go. When I say "you" I don't mean Maisweh, I mean Leeville as a whole.

We had a camp there for 26 years. After Rita we chose not to rebuild due to the impending bridge work and bad attitude by everyone of the locals with the exception of a handful that depended on outsiders to sustain.

the people in Larose have to drive a half hour to south Lafourche high.
everyone has to drive somewhere for something. lady of the sea is a half hour, and the next closest to there is at least 45 minutes. its not just towns, its the "community". leeville is just a 5 minute drive from golden meadow, golden meadow doesn't have a hospital either, fyi.
FWIW, most of the parish hates outsiders as well

just saw on bckfc that someone said fourchon looks like a luxury resort
Posted on 7/23/15 at 12:23 pm to maisweh
Have you seen the camps in Point Fourchon?

yes, company camp there. we go a few times a year. but that and the truck stop must be what hes talking about, because the rest of fourchon is called industrial city for a reason.

From the outside, it seems that she was being helpful and the full-time residents were hindering. Hopefully your own stupidity will speed up the train wreck

Just for the record, I would vote for Barf if ever in a running for any Council.

What train wreck? and for the record, there aren't many residents, its mostly businesses. you do realize that people still went there without her, right? its that type of attitude that you have that makes residents resentful of outsiders, that "im better than you" attitude and that the place is a shithole. just fish somewhere else, your $20 worth of minnows wont hurt the community that's built off of oil and gas and shrimping.

I would too, but you've just got to be from the area to understand and not an outsider looking in

I don't have a dog in this fight and really don't care, but the article and your comments sure make it seem like people from that area have a huge chip on their shoulder and a bit of an inferiority complex. Just my 2 cents...

Will I still be able to use the free launch ?

I only think I'm better than most people in the US, not y'all specifically. Seems like she had a plan and y'all rejected it out of jealousy and stupidity. As far as I'm concerned, if you're not moving forward, you're moving backwards

Janet A Rhodus is a listed real estate broker in Baton Rouge...take it for what you will.

It's probably a safer bet to assume what pissed people off is she had a plan, implemented it, and succeeded. Even in the face of opposition. The formation of the Cultural preservation commission was her downfall. I get what she was trying to do, and perhaps she was delusional about how much support she had.
She had the right idea with gaining the ability to lobby for public funding but the whole thing fell apart. The commission, predictably, threw a hissy fit because non of them have any real experience in development. The end result was chasing out the only person that had the wherewithal to get shite done.

People are their own worst enemy proven right again. I don't know the specifics about the situation, but the likely outcome is that the people in charge will now squander anything they had going, dissolve the commission, and blame it on her....and the idiocracy continues on
