nstruction on a 14-acre residential and commercial property along La. 3235 in Golden Meadow is expected to start in late summer.

When it’s completed, Dore Pre’ will be a $10 million investment, said Janet Rhodus, Omni Realty Advisors broker who’s handling the property for developers Larry and Karen Thigpen from Monroe.

“The community will cater to the needs of Port Fourchon, hospitals and other area businesses in need of housing their staff, contractors and guests,” she said.

The property faces La. 3235, backs up to La. 1 and is next to the Golden Meadow post office.

Just did a Google search. I forgot about this and I can say I don't know anyone in Golden Meadow who's happy about it.

Can anyone articulate to you why they are in opposition? Or are they unhappy just for the sake of being unhappy? It's not like they are tearing down a 100yr old church to build the thing. It's a big arse empty space.

Will find out and report back.
I do know no one is happy about the development in GM. If I had to guess it's because of that and she says she doesn't have anything to gain in Leeville or however she worded it.

Sounds like progress!

Hopefully it lures more restaurants to the area. . . I'm getting tired of only having a choice between McD's and Huddle House on the trip back from fishing!

So the people of Golden Meadow(and Leeville) hate things like increased housing, higher property values, more tax dollars, increase revenue for local businesses, and the prospect of more businesses being brought to the community?

Not a direct question to you but just curiousity in general. They're pissed because she's a non-local and that she might make some money while probably helping them to increase business/revenue as well?

A very large portion of the population there receives handouts in one form or another, but they will deny it until the day they die. Don't rock the boat.

They hate outsiders but yet they are the same ones who flock north to shoot every frickin deer that walks during deer season. We ate at that little seafood restaurant in Leeville 3 weeks ago and they served the worst seafood I've ever eaten.

This quote says all I would need to know about the people that live there...

It's not housing for them, it's a gated community for out of town workers and "guests"

This arse backwards way of thinking is why Louisiana lags behind the rest of the country in everything that matters...Not directed specifically at you, but you do seem to parrot those same sentiments.

Exactly

I've never met the lady but her intentions seemed good to me but I'm just a scary out of towner from Baton Rouge who launches in Leeville sometimes.

If my money is no good to them I will just fill up fuel, bait and ice at bridge side and run to my fishing spots in leeville. Gives me more options anyway.

I know Boudreauxs has been on her arse because some people used the launch leeville facebook page to complain about the rooms having bed bugs, drug deals in the parking lot and sewage pumping out into the bayou

Boudreaux's has dumped poo in the slip since Noonie's was selling dildo's and VHS porn and the bowling alley was a new idea!

Big oil, shrimping, yada yada yada. Without outsiders all those places would be greatly diminished if even existing. I guarantee you there are more fisherman in that area on the weekends than there are shrimpers and offshore guys.

Nope.
and most fishermen on the weekends come from like 10 minutes up the road.
