Is there anywhere I can rent a fishing kayak in BR or surrounding areas? My buddy and I want take them down to his camp in Dulac and wanted to try it out before we spend some cash on one. Thanks

I grew up fishing many years in a piroge. I would fish the big pond in the neighborhood everyday all day. I kept my piroge at my neighbors dock and hit the water right after school till dark. Did so from jr high till I graduated. Then every chance I got for a few years. I miss those evenings on the water. I learned how to fish the wind and would use crank baits in a fasion that I hardly used a paddle. But when that late evening came on and the water turned to glass, that was golden.
Older now and the comfort of the kayak looks pretty nice. May be thinking of getting one soon. I like the idea.

there are a couple of guys that rent them near Grand Isle. The first is on Cheniere Caminada and you can the the for rent signs from the road. Then I think Danny Wray rents them on the island. see www.calmwatercharters.net

i like the lack of hassle and other crap to worry about.. just drive close to where you are gonna fish drop in and FISH.

you can rent a regular kayak from LSU rec center. Its not ideal, but i fish out of my recreational kayak all the time

Mine is and inflatable and it works out great. Its much nicer than you would think(not like a pool toy) and it was under or right at $200 brand new. its a sit in but i usually keep my feet out on top.

I carry 2 rods in my Manta Ray 14'. Some carry 4-5. All you need is a crate with some rodholders, and/or some built in rodholders, and you can even troll.

I carry 5-7 rods when I fish out of the 16' aluminum flat...a kayak is looking like an attractive option for when I move further from home. If I could easily take 3-4 rods on a yak with me this would be legit

many fishing kayaks come with 2-3 rod holders and you can buy extra holders and mount then to the boat. you should have no problem carrying however many you want.

I saw a guy on Blind River with a 14' yak when i was chasing the sacs this winter...he had a depth finder and rudder mounted on it and all..pretty sweet rig

I know most ppl bash Pelicans but right now the 11ft kayak is on sale for 329 at Academy. Seems like a damn good deal. Probably going get one this weekend. Will be my first kayak. That way if I don't like it, oh well.
